1mbrews8 thoes are nice but they are technically other people's masterpieces! Just kidding, would like to see them when they are grown as well. The wwc piece with yellow polyps looks like it could be pretty cool.

I am sure the op didn't mean that, I was just playing around.
Personally I have always found it rewarding to be able to buy wild stuff and have a "Brown" acro turn into a beautiful, "one of a kind" piece. The whole process of making sure they are clean and healthy, all the way to the finding the right lighting they like to get the true colors to come out.
Buying the named pieces has its perks, and my tank might not have a ton of crazy colored stuff in it, but I am definatly more happy after putting in all the work.

100% true
but sometimes you want to get some aquaculture or tank raise to show the wife the colors so she can forget you for paying big$$$ for it

Ryanrid, that looks a lot like a frag I got off the $20.00 rack at my LFS. Was whitish flesh withe grey/ purple tips. Turned into a Myagi tort. Sometimes the best part is seeing what they become.

Ladies and gentlemen, I been reading some of the post about this man's beautiful coral, I been a professional photographer since 1973 I have a masters's degree and a Cressman degree in photography, back in the day I had a big studio and we had a lab and process and printed our own photographs, There's all type of things you can do to enhance pictures. In this case I don't think so I have been doing professional videotaping for the last 25 years and have had video cameras coursing up to $25,000 that was back in the day now you can get a halfway decent video camera for around two or $3000 I looked at the Richards video ofhis tank and I don't see any Photoshop or video enhancement of this piece of coral, this is just my opinion, when you're photographing in your tank the blue light definitely tricks your camera and not giving a correct color it's called reciprocity failure this is when a camera cannot make out different colors due to different lighting situations. I don't see this in the photograph or the videotape. Richard you are a lucky man to have this piece, please make sure your perimeters or always correct so this piece will go on and on. Good luck Phil

Phil, thanks for your post explaining this. I am not way even close an experienced photographer as you are, but I've been taking fish tank photos and editing in various software for over 10 years, at first using PaintShop Pro etc and Photoshop for the past 9 years or so, and I couldnt detect any artificial enhancement either. Using Photoshop I can enhance the saturation or hue of individual colours whilst leaving the rest of a photo normal, without even using any of the advanced selection tools...

So anyone with even some basic Photoshop skills such as myself can tell when a photo has been enhanced.

The fact that anyone even thinks Richards photo may be enhanced or that the colours appear enhanced due to an artefact of using a camera phone is actually a testament to Richards skill as an SPS keeper.

FWIW most hobbyists dont go down this route...however, a good number of coral vendors do...

Besides, anyone artificially enhancing their coral photos beyond the real appearance are only cheating themselves.
