There are a lot of ways to handle NO3 and PO4.

Yes, there are many ways to fight no3. Fighting po4 is my next priority. Having no3-po4 imbalance now

You do know that someone recently did a test kit shootout(forget the members name, sorry), and believe it or not, API was actually quite accurate. Its the whole color matching that is tough. It's also just the ammonia kit that sometimes gives false positives. In my opinion, the difference between 0 and .25 of ammonia is so close in color, most people get confused.

I have nyos reefer nitrate test kit as well. I dont want to waste it as i only wanted the API no3 to tell me its close to zero, which is yellow
Here are the same test on 29/8 which is around 40ppm, might be lower.

No doubt it works quite good stripping nitrate. I need to work out on reducing PO4 off the same reactor, so far the result is not so promising.

Here's a thread that has basically touched on every question presented in this thread and topic about Marinepure blocks a dozen times over by experienced reefers. Probably should just read that thread and then post questions over there first, since you'll see the discussion can spiral quickly.

I posted this link in this thread I don't believe these blocks will complete the nitrogen cycle any more then what live rock will. Live rock does complete the cycle to a certain extent. If we could get a way with just live rock a lone then there would be no reason to use other means to control NO3. If you expect some kind of miracle from this stuff then you will be let down. I think the best use of it is for limiting the amount of live rock you want you use. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere to have high flow over these blocks but im sure that's so you don't get build up on them. You could over come this with filter socks. With out them I would keep an eye on the blocks and clean them when need be. How much if any of an anaerobic environment you can achieve is up for debate on an 8x8x4 block. Rock gets denser in the middle these blocks do not they are full of holes through out. Last edited by SFish; 09/07/2016 at 12:46 PM. |
