120 gallon rimless with basement sump - Page 4

Great build and skills. Really like how your doing pretty much everything DIY. As i have started to build a 90g system very similar to yours. With the basement sump, lighting fixtures mainly. You have given me some great ideas I have not thought of yet. And especially solved the problem of getting the fixture out of the way for tank mx. I will be using/stealing that idea. I see your in Mansfield. I visit that area (mainly Loudonville) on a regular basis. So couple of questions for you, if you don't mind.

1. Where did you get your 8020 supplies from? I haven't been able to find the pivot/hinge you used.

2. Any good LFS in Mansfield you use? or do you run over to the major cites CLV, Columbus Akron areas.

Never mind on question 1. Finally found it on 8020's page. Took me about 3 hours to get my order altogether.

I’m actually near Mayfield, OH, not Mansfield. Depending on the size of your light rack you may be able to go with 10 series instead of 15, which will save some money. I have 10 on my 29 gallon.

Wrapped up the 2nd test with RO line on the intake.

Results are more promising. Two of the containers were spot on, taking exactly 100 ml as programmed. The third was close.

The lines leaving the dosers were clear, which was good to see. I still may upgrade the bushing, but am moving forward with RO for now

The skimmer and neck cleaner are doing a great job in pulling out the muck

Awesome. Just to make sure I understand, you had RO like inside container to bulkhead and then normal dosing line coming from the bulkhead to your doser?

No. Running rigid line inside the container and RO from the container to the doser

I put the end that connects to the doser into a glass of hot water for a few seconds and it slid on easily.

Been a while since an update because I’ve been enjoying the tank.

I’m up to five fish. Added a Neon Dottyback and a Cherubfish. All fish are doing great.

Thus far, no issues to speak of. Very small diatom bloom early on and no other algae blooms or cyano. I’m very happy with how everything is running and with little maintenance outside of emptying the skimmer cup every other week and changing out filter floss weekly.

My nitrates have stayed steady at around 3-5 and I’m slowly bringing up alkalinity with 2 part until I get my dosers connected. Dosing 25 ml per day. I should have the dosers going in a week.

The fish room is getting cleaned up as I just took down my old 29 gallon. I also finished one of the last two parts of the build, moving my old Hydra 26 to the refugium. This should hopefully grow chaeto better than the Marineland reef capable LED

I owned a Neon Dottyback once and never again, they are so mean.
I am not joking the meanest fish I have owned.
Worst part about it they can squeeze through any hole so a fish can not even hide.

Thanks for the heads up. So far it’s behaving. Any issues pop up and I’ll re-home it pretty quick. It’s made good friends with the cherubfish, probably because they were in QT together and both are half the size of the other fish

Finally got the dosing lines ran and dosing shelf installed. I tried to make it look as organized as possible

Full look at the control board

Dosing lines running to the sump. One change I made was drilling new line holders over the baffle. I was hand dosing 2 part until this was done and found that the flow in the return section was not as much as I expected. Plenty of flow in the baffle.

The build itself is pretty much done except for upgrading my gyres to the new 350s. Still more stocking in the tank and cleaning up of the fish room.

You just drill some holes in pieces of wood to run the lines?

Looks really nice and clean like that.

You can. I used 3/4” PVC trim from Home Depot on the white blocks and wood on the painted ones.

Thanks! I’ve become a big fan of Triton Marine. It’s 20 minutes further than bfa but the store is much cleaner and I’ve had great luck with getting healthy fish there. The staff is also much more knowledgeable overall.

Rented a PAR meter from BRS so I could adjust my lights as needed based on present and future coral.

Since I’m running a T5/LED combo, I adjusted the intensity of the Radions to get an idea on where to set them. Note that these numbers include the T5s on

The rock work is approximately half as tall as the height of the tank

I initially bumped the Radions intensity up to 75%, but my LPS don’t seem to be as happy as the initial setting around 60% so I’m bringing it back down.

Wow you have made a lot of progress since I was last on the forum. My room renovations are about done and now I’m in the planning stages for my stand and plumbing. I’m going to make a concrete top for my stand.
