If you like the idea of having two make one removable. The stand will withstand the ten minutes with one when and if you ever need to remove the sump.

Ok time for an update and pics.

I made one of the front supports removable incase the sump needs to be taken out and had to redo the rear supports. I either had the wrong dimensions for the tank or measured wrong when I was building. Either way, the 75gal sump didnt fit.

The finish work is nowhere near alot of some stands Ive seen here but I think it turned out pretty good for my first woodworking project and a severe lack of the proper tools.

The finish wood is just cheap pine "Car Siding" from Menards and pine trim. I decided to go with red oak color stain.

The front is a one piece removable panel. This will allow full access to everything under the stand. I made kind of a pocket for the bottom to slide into and attached the front/side trim to the panel.

I will be putting on a couple coats of clear satin poly later this week to finish it up. Hopefully Ill get started on the canopy in the next couple weeks.

Nah not yet. Been pretty busy around here the last couple weekends. I plan to start (and hopefully finish) the canopy on Sunday.

Happy to help. If you need any other pics of certain spot or any questions feel free to ask.

Hopefully Ill have canopy pics this weekend.

Got a couple Sea Swirls from the sell forum that should be here in a few days or so. Ill have my return line hooked into those.

Im not sure if I want to go with a closed loop and Ocean Motion or a couple Vortechs for the rest of the flow. If I go Vortechs Ill wait on them until they get the directional nozzels and controler put out. I need to hook up with Travis and get his opinion on some other plumbing.

Just give me a shout when you are ready to come over and we can talk plumbing. Sorry I had to put you off for a while. My tank went through a bad spell for a month or so while I had to tear it down and treat all the corals in a quarantine tank for 4 weeks and the tank room was a real mess. But I got everything put back together a week ago so you are free to come over whenever you have time.

Ok I need some opinions from Ocean Motions users. I got a couple 3/4" Sea Swirls that should be here Tuesday. Ill have one in each back corner that will be fed from my sump return.

I also want to install an OceansMotions.

I will get either a 4 way or 8.

First, what do yall think I should get. Im leaning towards an 8 way since the tank is 96" long.

If I go with an 8 heres what I was thinking:

One on each side of the center overflow near the top, one in each top front corner and 4 across the bottom/front,

Or

One on each side of the center overflow near the top, one spraybar on each side on the bottom at the back, and 4 across the bottom/front.

Any other arrangements you can think of?

I cant do the canopy this weekend again so I was thinking it may be a good time to drill some bulkhead holes.

Thanks

Some questions first....
Will your sea swirls be on a closed loop or the return loop?

What type of corals will you be keeping?

What pump will be running the sea swirls?

What pump are you thinking for the OM 4-way/8-way?

Are you planning to have a bare bottom, shallow sandbed, or deep sandbed?

I would go with the 8-way and depending on the corals you're keeping and sand bed situation would decide the pump used.

The only way you're going to get random flow and no dead spots is to go 8-way or many powerheads.

The Sea Swirls will be on the return.

I have no idea what pumps Ill be using for either the CL or return.

Im thinking it will be mostly SPS with a few other things thrown in. Heavy on the fish too.

After seeing all the sludge that was in the bucket when I tore down my 65 I am going to go BB. Couldnt believe all the stuff that was in the sand.

I went with a 4-way on my 240g project (also 8' long). IMO plumbing an 8-way can be a real mess and you should be able to get comparable flow by splitting each output of the 4-way into two bulkheads for 8 total. Put a loc-line Y on each and a Hammerhead pump and I don't think you'll have any problems. I can send you a link to pictures if you like; I hear the mods here don't take kindly to posting links to other forums.

Ok, here are a few pictures for all to enjoy; I don't mean to hijack your thread and I don't purport to be an expert by any means, but I think this setup is going to work well for me. I will PM you the link to the complete thread to avoid getting busted if you want to read more.

Here's the final blueprint and some pictures of my closed-loop plumbing. Be sure to put unions and ball valves around the inputs and outputs of both the pump and the OM 4-way valve for maintenance and/or replacement. I'm using the version 2 drum. All PVC is 1.5" and each outlet bulkhead is 3/4" with a locline-Y coming out of each one. The CL pump is a Sequence Hammerhead and boy does it churn that water around, let me tell you. The inlet bulkheads on the right are both 1.5".

Best of luck on your project. You're off to a great start.
