I'm brand new to the hobby. I read The Conscientious Marine Aquarist a few years ago and got very excited about building a reef tank. Then reality set in and I realized I didn't have the space or finances to do things properly. Now that I have my own home, money in the bank, and a filthy used 120 gallon tank acquired from craigslist, I'm ready to get going
If there are any Indianapolis area reefkeepers who would like to take a newbie under their wing, I'd love to hear from you! |

Also, I'm serious about trying to find folks in the Indianapolis area. Is there a good place on the forums where I could post a thread looking for experienced people in my area?

Check out the salt chart on the link Michael gave you---I would go with reef crystal or h2oceanic.

Hi my name is Tim, I'm not to good at this internet stuff so please bare with me. I'm 53 and have had aquariums on and off for many years, but only about 8yrs with saltwater and about two with a reef system which I seem to be constantly changing as I learn or try to invert new things. I guess that's the mechanic in me but as I have learned it fits right in with this hobby. I have an understanding wife and three grown children that think I'm a little goofy playing around with my 72gl. bow and 80gl sump that I recently added, like I'm in my second childhood. Thanks for accepting me in the group and I hope to meet as many of you as I can, I live in neenah, wi. so I'm a local javascript:smilie('')in the Fox valley area.

Maybe there is i guess I've made my share of mistakes along the way, but I sure feel like I have an awful lot to learn yet. I guess I'm a little slow in that category, it always seems to come the hard way. It sure will be nice to meet others with the same interest and lots of experience because I really don't know to many now. If I could get directions to the next meeting that would be great, and those frags sure sound interesting if there is any left.

Hey All, Rob here, had been in the hobby for many years but got out due to a move across country, but just now diving back in. I managed a Salt only LFS for about 6 years starting in the early 90's which allowed me learn from some of the best in the business back then. Unfortunately my knowledge feels a bit dated 12 years later. I am currently setting up a new 40g to get my feet wet again, wish me luck. For what its worth I have been lurking around a few forum communities and really like this place.

Well, it is fine for gnomes but I'd be looking at better lighting for a tank that size. It depends on what you plan to keep but 600 watts would be more like it.

Newbie
Hi Everyone, My name is Mitzi and I am very new to SW tanks. I just started one about 6 wks and unfortunately had ALOT of mishaps so far...from orig tanks back blowing off (of course after i put sand , salt and 75 gals of water in it) . Currently I have a 75gal tank with LR, peppermint shrip (supposively to eat the aiptasia....which didn't) some snails and hermit crabs. I had 2 clowns and a Sweetlips. Clowns died after being moved to QT with Sweetlips for an ICH treatment. So far is been a very trying, expensinve and discouraging experience but i know once i gain some experience and knowledge the trip will have been well worth it. Any suggestions is appreicated, as I am just learning the hobby. Hope to hear from you soon and HAVE A GREAT DAY !!

Hey guys, I have always enjoyed and envied other peoples fish tanks, fresh or salt but specifically salt. I have a friend who just upgraded to a 250g tank and I am going to get his old 55 saltwater tank and all that comes with it soon. But I have been reading a whole lot here on thsi site and thru the newbie 101s and what not, just finished the lighting and just started on the sumps as a matter of fact!! Excited to fully dig into the trials and tribulations of this hobby and cant wait to learn more and more! Sweet site this is too!
