I've got a 30G sump with a refugium section and I will have a skimmer rated to at least double the tank's volume, probably a Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer. I'd also like an order to add them to the tank to promote the least aggression.

Alright so in alphabetical order:
3 Lyretail Anthias (1 male, 2 females)
Purple Pesudochromis
Midas Blenny
2 B&W Oscelaris Clowns
Bluespot Jawfish
Tang Purple, Sailfin (may get too big, I know), Blue, or maybe Yellow
Wrasse - Fairy or Flasher
Sounds like its going to be a good looking tannk. Nice set-up. As far as the fish your good with the Lyretail Anthias, Purple Pesudochrimis, Midas blenny, the clowns, bluespot jawfish, and the wrasse. For a tang in a 75 i would not do a purple, sailfin,or blue. Purple because they do get quite big and aggressive. Sailfin will get to big, i have one in my 90 and i am pushing the issue. A blue will get to big eventually for a 75. I think you might be able to get away with the yellow they are on the smaller side of the tangs. But i think you best bet would be a kole, mimic, or tomini these tangs usually stay smaller. What do you think of those?

yep i know they are not reef safe because they will eat shrimps and such. from what i have read though they don't touch corals. it's a thought. Tons of people have flame angels and things that are not considered reef safe and they do just fine. I already have it arranged with my LFS that if i get something and it does not work out in my tank i can bring it back for credit to other purchases so worst case they go back.

kole tangs are great fish. mine is super active and funny to watch. He likes to swim figure 8's around the powerheads i have mounted on the back glass.

Yea its always a hit or miss with those fish that are somewhat reef safe. But i know when i had a flame angle it did eat some of polyps but not to much to kill a coral. But it is always a risk. Glad to hear that your LFS will help you out with that.

Honestly, the tang would be the very last thing I added and I'm not totally enthralled with them any more. I think the yellow of the Midas will do wonders to make it "pop" in a group of so many purple fish and if I did get a tang, I'd really have to like it. I'm just not so big on the tangs that are commonly kept in aquariums less than 200 gallons. Uh oh guess I'll have to take out a wall and build a new one lol. Of any, I'd only really try and make a case for the purple. I should be good without a tang - that alone would make my tank unique would it not? Any recommendations on other interesting fish?

Actually, I kinda like the Tomini. I may stick it out and do tang-less though.

Totally agree with you. I have one in my 90. They are always active and mine is always grazzing. They might not be as pretty as some of the other tangs out there but they are great fish to watch swim around.

Well thats great to hear your not ready to rush a fish that your not sure about. I think thats a great thing to have as a reefer. But the tang is easily a pop in your tank with there colors and swimming/grazzing abiltys all day. But your tank will be plenty without one. You might be able to push the purple. But i would seriously think about it more because it is pushing the envelope. They are usually rated for tanks over 100 gallons.

Yeah, I think I can keep myself from the purple, it's just that if I got a tang, it'd be that one. I'll just wait for the right tank to come along. It's good to have someone have reasons for saying no, not just "well I wouldn't do it".

I don't have the tank set up, it's still in the planning stages but want to get a Lionfish and maybe an eel (not sure what kind yet). What kind of eel do you recommend and what kind of filter/lighting would you recommend? I want to do it in a 55 gallon.

I am no expert but a lionfish in a 55gallon seems like something that just won't work. By the time it grows to adult size it would fill most of the space in that tank.

You could do any of the dwarf lionfishes. I'm partial to the fuzzy dwarfs. So cool! As far as eels go, most of the eels available in this hobby need 30-55 gallon tanks, so I'd say go with a hardy species like the snowflake moray.

Want to see what people think about tangs in smaller tanks like 3 in a 90?

clown pair

So I've graduated from the 2 damsels and 6 ocean to a scarlet leg the clown pair true percula a red banded shrip and a snail... I was so nervous they was acting like they was afraid to leave the corner. The damsels stay on they side of the tank at the bottom. When i woke in the morning they was happily swimming around the tank. Is there anything I should look for?? its a 35 gal with 1 inch bed of LS and about 25 lbs of live rock. I have 2 K2s for flow one aimed at the surface to break the water up to keep my ph at 8.3. I'm thinking about doing a firefish next when I return the damsels for credit. I need some more some more reef safe scavengers I was thinking 5 more smaller hermit crabs like the scarlet leg and maybe 2 starfish. Any suggestions for the cleanup crew??

I'm doing a big invert order with BZA and R2G, and decided it's time to stock up the tank a bit fishwise. Well established 180 with DSB in display tank and refugium. Current fish are a Foxface, Blue spot Watchman Goby, Starry Blenny, and a Spotted Mandarin. Wanting to add a Rainford, Panda, and Signal Goby, as well as a Canary Blenny, and a Strawberry Basslett. Any problems with this mix? Any must have additions I'm missing? Thanks, John

Hi, at currently i have a 55g Reef dt with 10g planted miracle mud sump, 30lb of liverock.

ATM i have 3 chromis, and a royal dotty back/psuedochromis.

i also plan on a yellow watchman or bicolour blennie.

But the question i have, is there a suitable sea star?

It sounds like the clowns where a little scared and first and needed somewhere to hang. How much LiveRock do you have in the tank? As far as a cleanup crew i think anything is good. Starfish, Crabs and snails.

I think they will be fine together. You have a pretty big tank so it should be good. What do you want to add that you think you should have there is tangs, angles. There is many options you could do in the 180.
