Do you have them at 100% or do you have them dialed down a bit?

I have the blues at 100%, but the whites I have at about 50%. It creates a color that I really like and it appears the corals like it to....I may try to ramp them up in the future.

I have been trying to find a budget friendly LED system for my 20g long (30"Lx12"w). I have been looking at the eshinesystems LEDs and the only one that I could find to have this kind of spread is the 4G-1 48x3W cree led aquarium light. Suspended at 20", I will get a spread of 29"x13". This is the best I found, but it seems like it would be a bit of an over kill. Right now I have a couple acros and a monti but mainly LPS and zoanthids (I'm not very good at the whole sps thing) but would like to get a fixture that could still grow them down the road if I still change my mind. Thank you in advance, and happy reefing!
Tony

You need 1 unit get a unit without optics (120 degree lens) that will spread the light more... Once you get it you can adjust height... That size tank you'll have it like 6"-8" off the water.. probably Skip eshine and get a standard 120w unit (48x3w, 55x2w) there at ebay for like $175 free shipping...

How far above the water do you have your three lights?

Do you see any shadows with only 3 lights?

Thanks

They are about 9" above the water , i actually have them on top of the canopy , i just cut holes in it and set them on top , no shadows at all.

I bought one fixture from Ianrusso's link and have been letting it run for a few days like I would on the tank. Blues - Blues/Whites - Blues.

Haven't had an issue yet, unit is cool to the touch with a tiny bit of heat under the fixture with both white and blues maxed out.

I'll be ordering 3 more for my 240 in May. The fan noise isn't bad at all, 2 fans run when the whites are running and 1 runs for the blues. Then 3 when both are on naturally. I doubt you could hear it when covered with a canopy.

The fixture dims well, sorry the camera from my phone just couldn't take the light very well:

Travis1787, that is the only thing i do not like, when i recieved one of my fixtures, it came with 1 power cord missing, instead of sending me one they gave me a credit and a website to buy to from, so i guess they kinda made it right BUT i kinda thought they should be doing the ordering and taking care of it not me. I like the reviews i have seen from Aquariumleds.com as far as customer service, but i also saw the posting earlier in this thread that the lights i have are producing better par than theirs, sooooo im torn, customer service i think aquariumleds has it , but stronger PAR taotronics has it...... i know that doesnt help but thats just my thoughts.

If you go back to page 29, "jrp1588" had a problem with his lights, and the ebay seller shipped him a brand new unit in 3 days. The level of customer service will vary on ebay, from seller to seller, but that seller definetly backed the warranty so far.

That is true, i did not buy from this seller , i bought from hoodeals (or something like that), so i will agree every seller is different!

The way i look at it is this , i was replacing t5 bulbs for 200 bucks a pop every year, i spent 462.00 w shipping on 3 of these taotronic 120w led black boxes , and im saving around 40 bucks a month on my electric bill already(average) since ive switched, so lets say they last only 2 years, by then ive already saved close to 1000 on just electricity, nothing else. and if they only last a year, they have still even paid for themselves. is this the best LED system, nope, BUT does it grow corals, yes, does it light the tank, yes, and most of all, Do i like it. YES, it gives me more money to put back in my tank and upgrade my equipment and lights if need be down the road. If im looking at this the wrong way someone please chime in, but thats the way i see it. and for someone wanting to make the jump to LEDS, for this price and performance.........why not?

Agreed. I have the TaoTronics over my frag tank and sump and I am putting the BoostLed 35s over my DT. I would love to go with radions, but I can cover my 2 tanks and sump for about 1200, far less the the cost of 2 radions. Maybe next year or the year after IF I need to replace the unites...IF... the cost of the higher end unites will be manageable. Until then these work fantastic!

For anyone who has replaced the fans to a quieter version, can you post a link to the one you used?

This is exactly my reasoning with the exception that I went DIY and am happy I did. I loved my T-5's but my electric bill kept growing. Then Bulb replacement with 3 fixtures and 20 bulbs to change every year.

I'm glad that I went DIY as I have changed my LED arangment several time to get the color balance I personaly like. There is not a comercial fixture out there that truely matches my personal taste regardless if is bottom of the line or top of the line. Then with DIY my cost is still very close to bottom of the line with quality closer to top of the line.

par values of chinese leds

I just measured the par values with a friend and they were pretty interesting. Par readings for chinese 2 watt led X 55pcs X 120 watts.....18 inches 250 par 480 at 9 inches 800 + at the top two inches! (I think that a two feet they probably would be around in the 100's), but I only have a 75 gallon tank. Amazing!!!
