My lights are 4" to 4.5" AWL but that's because of my tanks light canopy cannot be adjusted higher or otherwise I would probably have them at 6" to give more space. I did not need to run the acclimation mode since I do not have but a couple corals in at this point. The tank is only 2 months old and still settling in. I'm still adjusting the %s every now and then to see what I like best, but it seems I will be running my whites at about 65% to 75% unless it seems that my corals need more light once I get them in the tank. I have a grape coral, trumpet coral, starburst polyp and assorted zoas in right now and I'm still adjusting flow and lighting to see how they respond.

Well I jumped ship as LEDs for primary lights. I enjoyed my Vega and would buy again, but I felt happier with T5s and went that route. If anyone is looking for another color Vega hit me up. I have one posted in sale forum. Discounted nice and reasonably.

Im really satisfied with AI Sol but tempted to upgrade. But sorta in the "if it aint broke, dont fix it" feeling about this.

GREAT SERIES! My favorite SPS and the growth seems good. Can we see some FTS?

Now I'm just waiting on the Director to be released before I decide...

i am currently on page 26 in this tread and just had to jump forward to comment on the fact that before you ask a question you should do as i am .PLEASE READ THE WHOLE TREAD BEFORE YOU BOTHER WITH ASKING ANY QUESTIONS ! i cannot believe how patient some of the question answerers are being as some questions are being asked 10 times . most of your answers are right before your eyes ,all you have to do is read the tread as thats why all the pages are here for you to read . if you read the whole tread you may actualy learn something rether than repetitive questioning .
just my 2 pennies and now i will go back and continue reading this tread and then i may ask a question or two ?

I know with AI it is to soon to ask but has anyone heard anything new about the Director?
I have been planning on buying the Vega but a read all the issues you guys and gals are having. Plus, the interface of the Director looks so much easy to configure.

Sign up to the newsletter and you will be informed as quickly as the rest of us. Go to AI's website and find the link that will sign you to the newsletter.

At this point we all have the same " not sure when " release date.

The last hint I read for the director and custom pucks said they plan to give a release date sometime in January. This was from another forum so I do not know how reliable it is, but I'm hoping it is true as I think we have been waiting long enough. I'm also hoping with the custom pucks that we will be able to order each individual component because I would like to piece 2 more units together but using a heat sink I already have on the tank.

By January it will have been a few months since MACNA and they had a working system there so I think it should be more than enough time to perfect it and have it ready for distribution.

At this point only thing that can be done is be as patient as possible even though for a few that have had the Vegas for a while it is hard to do.

Sorry if this has been asked (I didn't feel like going through 44 pages of posts), but it there an advantage in choosing the Vega Blue over the Vega Color or vise-versa? Or is it just a matter of personal preference?

I've heard that the reds and greens might not be the best for coral and should be toned down quite a bit, but I think I still prefer those colors in my display. My local reef store only carries the Vega Blue (they can get the colors if I want them) - he says that the blues show off the corals better.

I suppose I could get one or the other and if I'm not happy I could always swap out a few LEDs - it looks like the two models have only 4 different LEDs between them. Any ideas what the replacement LEDs might cost? I don't see them on the AI product page...

This is just my opinion but from what I have seen with both the color and the blues I made the purchase for 2 vega blues. Reason being that after i compared both over two different frag tanks at my lfs I like the coloring better with the blue. I didn't like the disco effect with red and green and the only way to avoid that is to tone them down quite a bit. Lowering the red and green imo is just wasting the ability to have a few more blues putting out usuable light. Again i think it comes down to preference but I think the red and green were just a marketing tactic to upgrade from the Sol's.

I was reading this article on advanced aquarist. It makes me wonder why they did not include 400-440nm range (violet I believe).

This article goes on to talk about absorption for the coral and what spectrums are best.

Interesting read no matter what LED light you have.

Besides the extra spectrum needed for coral growth, the extra spectrum helps with the color rendition of fish/coral. I hear alot of complaints of drab coloring from only blue/white led. The colors are amazing with the vega.

I would not get the sols. They are old tech.. Unless you can supplement them with T5's

This is just my opinion but I think they did not include the 400-440nm range because in a few months you will be able to customize your led pucks for fairly cheap with your desired colors and nm ranges. Its all about being able to get you to keep spending money on more additions and customizations. (I will be adding those violet leds when i am able to customize my pucks. shows you the marketing technique works because i will be spending more $ shortly)

I agree that the sols are old technology and only would be a better fit if you had a really deep tank. The optics on the sol is better for deep penetration and the vega optics are better for spread.

If what I read is true you will be able to change the optics as well as the colors on the customized pucks. I believe it is true about the marketing as I will also be ordering pucks when they are available.
I have a 5"x58" heat sink that I'm hoping to be able to order all the parts of the Vegas except heat sink to install. If I'm able will add the equivalent of 2 more Vegas to the 4 I already have on my 150g. On the 2 new ones I would put mostly the 400nm-420nm and deep blues with a white in every other puck.

Hope I'm not getting ahead of myself by planning on doing this but if I can't do it with the Vegas I will get a DIY kit to do it. So just waiting on the release to decide which way to go.

I have the sol over one tank and the vega over the other and I like them both about equal. I'd say if you can get a great deal on a Sol and money is important I would get the Sol. You will really like it. I like the Vega also, it has more bells and whisles but so far performance seems pretty equal although I haven't had the Vega that long.

I have had the A1 SOL Blue for over a year and i am quite pleased with them. Maybe in the future i will do the upgrade route to the newer pucks. however from what i am reading the major difference as is with the vega's is the red and green led's which it seems most people turn them way down anyways so it may be better for you to get the A1 SOL if the price is really good. I am going to wait until the Director upgrade comes out and see what people have to say...

If you have a shallow tank and you can mount the Vegas high enough AWL you can turn the red and green up high. They could have only put 1 each of red and green and it would have been enough for most people. The green can be turned up high and you do not notice to much but when you turn the red up it is very noticeable. Think the red is just overwhelming the other colors. Once you get used to them at lower settings you can turn them up and they are not as noticeable just like the shimmer your eyes adjust to it.
