Just installed my Aquaillumination Sol White over the weekend and all I can say is wow. It took a while to get them installed cause i had to customize a hanging kit for them to match my tank. The amount of light these things produce at only 40% White and 90% Blue is already stronger than my old 250watts MH minus the heat. Plus the new firmware upgrade is outstanding.
I do hope this will help color up my sticks! The lights are currently placed around 16inches away from the water surface. Thinking about bringing them down further to maybe 10 inches. What do you guys think? My tank has been experiencing some diatoms cause i just installed some BP recently and removed my DSB. Hopefully those will go away soon. |

Thinking of going LED on new set up
Would love your opinions.... Im hoping to get a 75 gallon rimless, 48 x 18 x 20. Would 2 AI's work going lengthwise? I presently have mostly zoanthiads, with a couple SPS near the top (44 corner pentagon with 150wMH)

How far above the water's surface should I hang my fixture? I have a 18" cube and am hanging a single Sol Blue unit 12" off the surface. Will this be sufficient?

We used marine wood which was primed and ducco finished. The Center Vertical brace holding the whole hanging kit is made of tubular metal which was welded together at a 90deg angle at the top. This was then primed and sprayed with several coats of epoxy based paint. The Ai fixture is quite heavy so i used a metal frame just to make sure it can handle the weight.

I bought 2 AI SOL Blue Modules and controller for my Red Sea Max 130D so I'm part of the club now.
A Very Big THANK-YOU to CalmSeasQuest for starting this thread and all your hard work, suggestions, data input, picture taking, graph illustrations, and readings posted. I also want to Thank rostato, txbonds, drtrash, MedRed, wickedfish, stephane, Garage1217, jkhuskies99, djkms, InferoST, & Blue_Reef for the pictures and data you all shared on this thread. Also a Special Thanks to Dark_Reef for the last 40/70 comparison graph which ultimately lead me to purchase all 70 degree optics for my modules. You all helped me immensely to make a very informed purchase. Thanks again. -David |

This has been an incredible thread!!!! I have learned several things from it. Anyway, I have 1st generation AI lights (Yep I like them a lot), but after reading these 48 pages I would like to try the sol lights. I called AI and was informed thaty they needed to be upgraded to 2nd gen to do this. at $250 per module an extra $1500 on top of the $3600 I originally paid seems crazy, but what in this hobby isn't. I have a typical 125 gal tank 72' long. I have 6 modules over it. The lights are about 6" off the water. I can't raise them any more. Can I do this a couple at a time and still have the gen 1 controller run it? I recently picked up a Profilux 3ex in hopes to run it all. Still trying to figure it out. I admit I am computer ignorant and don't know what all the cables/connections needed .
