Almost the same is tru for PAR. It tells you what phorosentetic available of light is prioduced usable by terestial plants. Corals can only use a little bit of red light while your lawn loves all the red light it can get.

Bells and whistles
[QUOTE=rad1687;20215288]aliexpress 55x3w versus Eshine 48x3w with solar simulator. What are peoples thoughts and experiences?[/QUOTE
I liked the eshine 48x3w with solar simulator But $175 shipping was hard to swallow... That's when I figured that I was payin for bells and whistles... I like the idea and I bet in someway some coral does benefit from sunrise but or $175 nipping and $200 more for the fixture... I ordered the 55x3w... Sam Set up some special mods for me (I wanted a bluer tank) and it was on... I needed 2 fixtures for my tank 48x24x30 DIY = 92x3w LEDs + a lot of work = $960 ---no warrenty Eshine= 96x3w LEDs + shipping = $985 ---- 1yr warranty Ali black box = 110x3w free shipping = $360 ---- 3 year warranty I say you get what you pay for... And sometimes you pay for a name... |

I bought (have not received) two Eshine 48x3 with solar simulators and two 48x3 without solar simulators. Price with all fees and shipping to my home $970. About $570 for 2 with controller and $400 for 2 without. I went with the solar simulator mainly because my tank is in my living room and I want the lights on but not at full strength during the evening so I can enjoy the tank and watch some tube without having intense lighting in the corner of my eye. Also the stock fans are much quieter. After battling my plumbing to find the quietest combo, I did not want to replace the water/pump noise with fans. I looked at both styles of lights (in person) and the Eshine were a bit heavier in build and also about 8 or 9" longer. They appeared to me to be better built---but what do I know, I am judging just on outside appearance and nothing internally. For $200 each without controller, you get an inexpensive light, a 3 YEAR warranty, a longer light which may result in less light fixtures to purchase, a 30, 60, or 90 degree angle, and you can choose what color LEDs to be built on them which I did with Troptrea's help. The price I paid was discounted because I bought 4 of them. I will post again once I receive the lights in case anyone is interested. Which ever brand of these Chinese lights people buy (or DIY) they have gotta being coming out way ahead than bending over and getting screwed by the $750 LFS lights. |

Thanks so much for your reply, that does make a lot of sense! I am looking to upgrade the lighting on my 90 gallon, should 2 of these lights be all I need?
http://www.aliexpress.com/store/3178...with-Lens.html Do I need optics for a 24" deep tank? Does Evergrow sell any lights for a 12 gallon nano? Thanks! Quote:

No need for optics in tanks under 24 inches deep.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/3178...rium-light.htm And I think they have some smaller clip on style fixtures for small tanks And 2 fixtures on a 90 is enough. Last edited by Ianwraab; 05/05/2012 at 06:51 AM. Reason: Forgot line |

Would you recommend the 1:1 ratio of blue to white, or 30:25?

So back on page 30 of this thread, I posted comments about the experience I have had so far with the lights I bought. I have some more to add. One of the fixtures I got has lost a driver for the blue LEDs. I contacted the manufacturer of the lights and explained to him the problem and sent him pictures backing up my claim. He agreed to send me a new power supply for the fixture, which I was happy to hear....fast forward a couple days, I received a text message form someone today asking me if I was waiting for a power supply for a led fixture. I replied yes and asked why. This person texting me just received the lights he ordered from the same manufacturer along with some extra parts(one of which is my power supply). This person then goes on to tell me that after he received his lights, he got an email from the manufacturer asking him to send these various parts( one being my power supply) to the waiting people......WHAT! This just blows my mind, while I am happy with my lights and I am confident that they are capable of supporting my tank, the after sale service is leaving me with a bad feeling. My hat goes off to the guy that is going to take care of the task of mailing all these parts off, because he could have just said forget it and kept the darn things. And while it is terribly frustrating and a little embarrassing to be putting this update up, I feel it is only right to keep my fellow reefers up to date with my experience so they can make the most educated purchase they can.....
Good after-sales service, 2 years warranty my foot. Last edited by Ucyibd1; 05/05/2012 at 06:26 PM. |

The light with the built in digital timer looks really interesting.I would love to have the day/night effect, but is it worth 2x the price? I like that it is still half the price of a Radion, with a somewhat similar effect.
If there was a legit ebay seller selling them, I might pull the trigger. It's easier if there is a US seller on ebay selling any of these, because ebay will force the seller to correct the issue within a certain amount of time. I would think that if something went wrong, you would otherwise have to ship the defective unit back to China. Not something I would want to do. |

Well I might as well jump in here also. i purchased 3 of the tao tranoic LED units for my 125 reef tank..they all arrived safe and sound from California, they all work. we have to modify the canopy for these lights which we will do next week. So far I am happy and excited to see how they look in my tank..
Presently I have 2 - 250 MH and 6 T5's -- Once a year I replace MH bulbs at a cost of 89.99 per bulb, twice a year I replace T5's at a cost of 20.00 a bulb. Living in florida you walk by the tank and can feel the heat from these bulbs, so not only the electric to run the bulbs but also to keep the room air conditioned so it is a decent temp. Cost for the year in bulbs alone current set up is about 440. Cost for three of the new LEDS about 460.00 Yup will see how these do, if they crap out then lesson learned but if they work then I be one happy camper!
