In my recent experience, Proline Aquatics does seem to be the "go to person" for issues in the US. You could also facebook message vertex...yet they may direct you to Proline. I personally received quick responses and a solution, but mine was a software issue.

Jen was great and took care of the issue.

I suspect removing the module will be no issue if you used the supplied thermal paste. I will probably find out tonight.

Hi Guys,

I found a good deal on a 4ft SR260 with three extra multicolor modules and the v-link. I was hoping to use it on a 72x24x25 tank, and wanted to know if you guys thought it would work (mixed reef, some SPS, some LPS, etc). I know they would recommend a 5ft version, would I just lose some light on the outsides? Going for the 5ft would be an extra ~$900 or so without the extra modules.

Would I just hang it higher off the water and run it closer to 100%?

Thanks,
Matt

I am running a 4ft 260 on a 5ft tank...no issues at all and feel like I still have some spill over on the sides. I would think that light will cover the entire bottom...not sure if there wouldn't be shadowing near the top edges. You certainly could raise the light, but I would try it in that 8 inch range. I would keep the sps directly under the light...move softies out toward the edges.

Vertex on softies

whats the experience of a softietank with vertex?
Now i have 4 x 39w on a complete softietank because i am thinkingabout to buy a vertex illumina 260.. i just have still my doubts about leds above my softies.. its no option to move them to the edge because my tank is only softies.. what do you think about it? here a pic of my tank with T5 (4 x 39 w)
do you recommend it to buy or not?

Nice tank! I have a mixed reef with limited experience on my illumina, but my opinion is that you would be just fine. Softies, for the most part, seem to be more forgiving than many corals. Looks like u have a mature tank with good parameters...I say go for it if u want it!

Hi! I've got a 72x24x24 tank, been running Vertex Illumina 260's for over a year now. Most of my LPS corals are fine, but I have an elegance that has browned out so I was thinking of adding some multi color modules. I have a 36" over the SPS side (which has very few SPS and one clam at the moment) and a 24" over the LPS side.

So I guess I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to add one aux module to each fixture and see how things turn out? Are people adding modules to all open bays or ?

Thanks

Brian

You probably want to add 2 on the 36" and 1 on the 24".

I have a 72" Illumina 200. All 11 bays are full with 4 RB, 4UV and 3 multicolor modules.

Height Above Water

Just picked up a 5 ft Vertex Illumina SR360 for my tank

THe Vertex web site lists the mininum height above the water but is that what everyone actuall uses?

Tank is 6ft by 2ft deep by 30inch wide

No live corals at the moment following a tank crash so starting to rebuild it. Will eventually have SPS with a few hard corals mixed in

Vertex splitter box

Hey guys, I have a big problem and hoping someone can help. I had an overflow while on a weekend trip. My wife was "watching" the tank. Long story short the splitter box for my vertex is damaged. I contacted alot of people and got no kind of response. A couple stores sell the actual power supply, but not the splitter box. Can anyone shine some light on my situation?

Look at post #1202. Jen from Proline Aquatics should be able to help you with this if you're in North America. If you're in EU, Jamie can help you on these forums in here: http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/f...play.php?f=641

I am ordering the vertex 260 12inch and wanted to add another module. With this unit I can add only one module. Which would be better and why? The UV with 3 diodes or the multi color one with 6 color/8 leds? What is everyone's experience?

I believe "notclear" has experience with both modules. I haven't got any yet, but was told to go with uv first, but I have room for a few modules and therefore can try both.

I guess if I had room for just one; the multi color would seem to be most logical. You might second guess yourself down the road if you limit yourself to uv...just my two cents.

Thanks for the help, but can you explain why the multi color over just uv? For example is there a benefit to the corals with the additional colors or just more pleasing to the human eye?

I began by upgrading my 4 ft unit with 3 U/V modules and slowly increased the U/V output to 35 % over 2 months. I found that this was too much and got the beginning of bleaching, although the basic colouration of SPS was quite good. So I backed off U/V to 25 % and left it there...all was good.

After about 6 months with only the U/V upgrade I addes 4 multi-colour modules and after 6 months with these running I have backed right off on the green and red (to 5% each) and upped the U/V to 28% with white at 40%.

This seems to be the "sweet spot" for my corals and I run the unit about 4 inches above the water surface for a PAR reading of 480 ( I am advised that for leds it is wise to add 15% to the PAR reading to get a true reperesentation of the actual PAR under leds. So I figure I am getting something like 550 + PAR.)

I am very happy with the general colour and condition of my SPS under this light regime. But I am not convinced that the multi-colour modules added sufficient benefit to warrant the cost.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Can each color be controlled separately in this one module?

There are 4 channels controls:

Red, green, warm white, and uv.

Awesome! Thanks everyone, you really helped me to make my decision. I am going with the multi color module.

LED and red Acans

Hi,

I am from Germany and have the Vertex 260 over my tank (160 gallons).

Here you can see some pics:

http://www.meerwasserforum.info/inde...984&highlight=

I have the problem that red Acans I put into my tank not later than one week turn into orange.

Maybe this is a general problem of LED light:

http://community.ecotechmarine.com/e...l_color_change

Has somebody of you tried the multicolor modules over red Acans and can tell me what happened ?

Many thanks in advance ...

Naif
