Great sump !!

I have a question, what are you doing to do not receive any bubble from the overflow of your tank?

I've been using a Herbie overflow for awhile now.I would never go back. Full siphon means no air and no noise.

Clownin, Could you put the dimensions of the built sump, as the distance of each vertical sheet and baffles, I'm in the process of building one and really a like this setup, mine will be 48 long but not sure about the filter socks areas since I have never ran them before, once again awesome sump.

How do you like it so far! I was wondering how often do you change out the filter socks?

For all you sump designers out there, why is the convention to have the middle baffle in a bubble trap higher than the end baffles? Wouldn't it work just as well to have the middle baffle touching the bottom and the two outer baffles raised an inch or so? This would force the water under the first baffle, and allowing bubbles to burst at the surface. With an overflow first baffle it seems even fairly large bubbles get pulled over with the water flow. Certainly some microbubbles will get pulled under the first baffle, but they still have to travel over one then under another baffle.

And, it would certainly be alot easier to clean between the baffles.

I would like to know also. Is there any reason for the two outer baffles to be on the bottom?

you want the middle baffle the taller because you want the water to have to surface as many times as possible. If the ends are higher then the last one would be useless since the water would just go right under it and into the return pump.
This way it has to go over the last baffle then back down to the return pump. It forces the water up and over two baffles instead of just one. Micro bubbles are removed best when the water HAS to surface, which is why over two and under one is better.

If that makes sense! Lol. I hope so!

Wow really nice and clean!

Doesnt seem like elite aquatics are doing custom sumps anymore.
Anyone else building customs sumps with this type of quality?

Thanks for that baffle explanation.. I've always seen and thought the under 2 over one before the return was better for trapping bubbles as they get stuck in the tiny chamber going over the middle of the 3 baffles ?
