How exactly did you construct your stand? These are all nice tanks!

Here is an update on my young 75G tank. Original photos are early on in this thread. Since then I have introduced my first fish, and my first coral. I hope you still enjoy it despite the lack of activity. It is a work in progress.

The Professor,
Lookin good, liking the open space aquascape. How many lbs of live rock is that? Does the solar flare sit on top of your tank? does it heat the water any? |

Between the display tank and my refuge there is about 90lbs. I estimate total water volume to be 100G between tank, sump, and refuge. There is more coming, I have another 15lb piece curing. The total I am looking for is about 130lbs. From my previous tank I felt it was too crammed at 2lbs per gallon. I want to easily access the glass for cleaning and a slightly more open environment. The pictures do not do the solar flare justice. I compare the brightness to be equivalent to a 400w halide. Just visually looking at the tank when it is lit. It did bump my heat up about 1 1/2 degrees at its peak. Aquatinics should be releasing the standoff legs soon for it. So for now the fixture sits right on top of the tank. Thanks for the interest. I am wondering if I should do a build thread for this tank. It is not over the top, but I did customize some things like the stand and my sump. |

Professor, I would love to see a thread.... Your tank is amazing... What are your plans as far as supplementing calcium / Alk. Are you going to add a Calcium Reactor, or dose 2 part... I have finally dialed in, 460 calcium, 1300 mag, 9dkh, 8.2 ph.... Using 2 part, Oceans Blend, additional Oceans Blend Calcium. I cannot wait to see your tank when it is full of corals.

Does a 72RR Bow count? I think it's close enough!

I think because the tank looks great we can let it in, it as after all in the 70's.
Plyle02 My only complaint about a tank thread is that it might invite some unwanted criticisms. Like I said it is not over the top like some of these amazing tanks, but their are some goodies to it. The only reason I would want to post a thread is to show people some different ideas. This is my second tank currently running. The first one was on the fly. I tried to make well informed decisions, get good equipment, and kept my fingers crossed. It came out alright, but once I saw it in action I knew things could be better. Like I saw what kind of space I needed, different equipment, and staying away from nitrate factories ( assorted gimmick filters, etc. ). I use the usual cast of supplements, all ESV, and manually dispense them. I know a calcium reactor would be better at maintaining some levels more consistently, but I'm not at that point yet. They seem kind of intimidating. I think I cleaned out U.S. supplies of salifert test kits, and I test often. My levels are good and don't fluctuate that much. Believe it or not I think I am more into, and get more enjoyment from working on the tank than any thing else. |

Razzagas,
Thanks for the comment. The tank is a 75 gallon tank lit by 14 Phoenix bulbs, ASM G3 skimmer, Tunze reactor, AC Jr. controller. The large elegance is about 24" fully extended, I have had it for about 4 years and it has grown from about 8" in that time. Mark |

This is my 75g tank. I already posted pics of it from a month ago. 7 fish, 40 snails, and 12 crabs later here it is: (sorry about not having corals, I'm a wannabe haha).

This thread has given me some wonderful ideas for my upcoming 75g. Everyone who has posted pictures of young or mature tanks should be proud. They're all very beautiful in their own unique way.

I started this thread awhile back, and got some great ideas, and some great advice. Since posting, I have done some major tweeks, starting with the removal of my main tank's DSB. Yep, that's right, BB all the way.... Here are some pics of the recent changes. Since I am leaning towards a mostly sps style tank, I decided this is my best long term approach.. I have seen some amazing 75 gallon tanks, so please keep them coming.....

Welcome back. All my previous tanks were BB. As a matter of fact this 75g is my first tank with a substrate. I will probably post pictures tomorrow, more rock, and first sps.
