I dont think the ASM G4X has a chance against this skimmer, but it did alright for the money.

This is what I've gotten since I first set it up Friday night. I think it might be officially broken in now.

I just drained it ... Nasty stuff.
Sorry, no pics tonight. No camera at home, and no internet here either ... Posting from my blackberry.

Right now I have it set to skim a little on the wet side. It is pulling a sick amount of dark green/brownish fluid, not the tea colored stuff. It filled the collection cup up to the point of it bubbling/gurgling from the lid ... All within 48-60 hours. ... Again, NOT the tea colored skimmate that one can almost look through ... But dark green, almost brown fluid.

Ahh, YES, I love it!!! The funk that this skimmer pulls out on a continous basis is awesome!

So far the biggest complaint I have gotten, and it really has only been questioned by non owners so far, is the nylon screws on the neck. Just asking the existing owner's of this skimmer so far, would it have been worth it to you to have spent another $40 - $50 retail on a twist neck?

Aquaticman....so I'm guessing you feel this isn't too much skimmer for a 90g? What is your total system gallons?
I was thinking of purchasing the smaller one when it comes out, but maybe this is what I want?

Jeremy,
I would have spent the extra $$$ for a twist neck.

Matt,
I'm around 300g total. I don't think you need something this big unless you plan too add on to your 90 or go bigger later on. If you're in a hurry, then go ahead and get it now while it's on sale. I don't think the smaller one will be all that less expensive and who knows when they will be out.

I was advised that this skimmer would be too big for my 120g and to wait on the smaller version.

Just get a bigger tank so you can use this skimmer.

Jeremy,

here is my take on this ... as I was one to debate over this as well.

Yes, I'd have loved to have the twist neck, and the extra $40-$50 wouldn't have held me up.
I've had an ETSS 1800 before, and to get into the stacks, and the top off one had to remove the nylon screws ... there was very little clearance ... would always get your fingers cought.

This skimmer is a bit different though .... Reeflo was smart enough to put the key holes in there ... On this skimmer one only needs to loosen the screws by ... 2-3-4 rotations, just enough to make the top not push on the 0-ring anymore. It is NOT as much of a PITA as i thought it would be.

And really sitting back & thinking about it .. I've had skimmers with twist necks ... if its a cheap twist neck, it could potentially be a PITA to undo. I've had it to where i needed 2 people for it ... 2 hands around the collection cup to twist, and 2 hands, or a foot to try to hold the skimmer body in place while one twists.
If a twist neck - it would have to be a union style, like the EuroReef ... Eventhough this skimmer holds alot of water, and therefor weighs quiet a bit when in operation ... i'd still be afraid to break the body/neck joint while trying to untwist the cup ... always required a bit of a jerk/torque force to get it untwisted.

So all in all ... I'm not complaining about the 8 nylon screws ... 1 other modification though ... some sort of drain in the base box ... and possibly making the diffuser plate removable ... for easy cleaning inside the box.

I am perfectly happy with the screws, they are easy. Takes 15 seconds tops to remove the cap. I have had used twist necks before and they are more of a pain than the screws for the reasons wizsmaster mentions above.

I have had euroreefs almost "glue" up and become a real pain to unscrew.

Paul.

Yes ... A lot of my corals started to color up ... Different colors ... Never seen before.

I have what was sold to me as a brown w/ blue tips stag ... It is now turning all blue, with a teal hue ...
All 3 of my torts are gaining more color.
My brown tri-color fuzzy stag is actually showing all 3 colors now ( brown/blue/green)

Would I claim that the skimmer is cause for all of this? No. However I do feel comfortable saying that that it sure helped!
The only other change I have made is hooked my much undersized calcium reactor back up ... It has been off for the last 4 months ... And I have not once tested for alk/calcium ... Or done a water change ... Other than about 50g a month ago when a hose came loose & my sump pumped dry overnight.

The tank has also cleared up A LOT! It is amazing what a good skimmer can pull out!

Hello club,

Just a thought, not a competition, can all of us post our FTS and specs.
So we know who has what, and how the skimmer handles each one.
Beside, with pictures, our club will be more popular.
