White fuzz on live rock

I have read all of the post about this and the description matches what I have. but I have yet to see a picture of it like mine. It is clear about a 1/4" long covers the under side of of the rock and low light areas, it also grows in the over flow, however, I do not see it on the sand. That may be because I stir and vacuum the sand bed every water change. To best describe how it reacts to the current and its consistency, It resembles grass in a field swaying with the breeze. It is very hard to get a good picture of it. If you look at the haze or clear outline to the rocks you will see it. it is also prominent in the hole of the lower rock. the rock is all dry rock from BRS that i cured for 2.5 months prior to placing in this tank. I first noticed it about a month after placing in this NEW tank. I also used dry sand. I did not use anything from an established aquarium.

Of course i just recently battled a bad cyano outbreak which i have done 10 25% water changes and this stuff was not affected. I still have a minor phosphate problem. No cyano but green glass algae that needs to be cleaned every few days. I use RO/DI water for top off and water changes. It just baffles me. here is a pic

I'm not particularly good with getting ids for such organisms. Low light makes me think bacteria or perhaps some sort of encrusting organisms, but I can't see much detail. I might work on the phosphate problem with a bit of GFO to see whether that might help with this organism some way, but since it's likely not photosynthesizing, I'm a bit skeptical about that. Is any food going into the tank yet?

It's excessive bacteria. I just developed this after dosing the high nutrient amount of Microbacter7 every day for 14 days while battling Dinoflagellates. Harmless i'm sure, and should disappear as things balance out.

Edit: The bacteria is probably feeding on dying organisms if I had to guess. It looks similar to when you set up a freshwater tank and add driftwood. The first few weeks, the wood is covered in the same ghostly hair algae looking stuff, then it just goes away one day.

That could be bacteria, or it might be some sort of creature. If you touch it gently, does it break up, like a slime mat? If so, I'd guess bacteria. Otherwise, there's a lot of animals that live in the sea. We could point you somewhere for a better guess, possibly.

I've been dealing with this algae for a good 8-9 months now. My tank is about a year old now. I started a thread about it here:

I went fallow for a long time and I haven't fed anything into my tank for about 6 months now. I've just been doing 13% water changes with salt water made with 0 TDS RODI and DDH2Ocean salt. What ever it is, it still thrives with no added nutrients and syphoning once a week doesn't keep it in check. It is hairiest at the top of the rocks that receive the most light and mush and cotton like on the sand (actually I cannot confirm if I have two different things). I started my tank with Microbacter7 just like many other people that I read have this same nuisance algae. Have we ruled out cyano in this thread? Has anyone tried chemiclean? Have we ruled out Dinos? I was thinking of trying Dinox but if Dinos are already ruled out then I wont bother (it's pretty expensive). All of my snails, shrimp and crabs seem to eat t his stuff and have not died. There are no visible populations of pods left in my tank and so i'm pretty sure my inverts have nothing to eat but whatever this is.

I have those same things! I think they are pineapple sponges, but now my tank has developed theses white/clear like tubes all over the place on the live rock. Just seems to be in one area though (right under my pineapple brain coral and next to where my hammer coral was). Some even have a little green head. Does anyone know what these might be?

Those could be sponges, but I can't tell. You might want to try in the invertebrate forum. I'm not very good with animals ids.
