Mine is dead silent. I also agree that the noisy ones aren't aligned correctly.

I'll chime in. I bought 2 MP40Ws when my Tunze's went belly up. They changed the design since I had the older style and I didn't feel like chasing down spare parts to get the Tunzes working again.

The price was comparable and the flow of the Vortechs is completely different (IMO). I had the Tunze multicontroller, and I agree that it is probably slightly more functional with the night mode light detector. I wonder if Vortech can do this wirelessly? (you can just send me an R&D check)

I can't really comment on their (Vortech) customer service since I haven't needed it. Tunze was good in this department.

When setting up my new 210 Peninsula Reef, I researched both the MP40W and the Tunze 6105/Aquasurf. I went and saw them in person on several peoples tanks. I also did a lot of reading on the two products.

Since it is a Peninsula configuration I only have a single pane of glass to mount powerheads to. In my case I needed the ability to aim them to avoid my aquascaping.

With the Aquasurf I can create a nice wave and have the directional flow I needed.

The cost of 2 MP40Ws was almost the same as 2 x 6105s plus the Aquasurf. So cost was not a real factor in my decision.

What I have noticed in many of the comments here is the consistent perception that the MP40W is the superior product.

Frankly I think the suitability of the product is based on the intended application.

The Bullet points make no difference to me if they do not apply to my intended use of the product.

So for some people the Tunze may be the superior product, to others the Vortech, to others the Koralia.

Bashing someone else's viewpoint simply because it does not agree with your own is very closed minded.

To each their own.

I speak with my dollars. In this case I spent my money on 2 x Tunze 6105s and an Aquasurf. I am very happy with my decision.
I feel it was money well spent.

My fish and corals seem to agree, to me that is what is really important.

For me I preferred the Vortech because they are a local company and I was able to buy them at a better price than the Tunze. They are about equal in my book so it’s a personal decision.

I don’t consider any of the Koralia pumps in the same league as Vortech/Tunze. They are more in the middle IMO.

I'm happy with my pair of MP40W's.

And I don't care for the taste of purple Koolaid.

JMHO.
