Tomato clown (LFS recommended it as the last fish to add to my tank that was semi-aggressive, BIG MISTAKE) Had 2 O clowns, damsel, hawkfish, royal gramma and a sleeper goby (which he killed.)
Yea this little nasty clown nipped my other clowns and damsel to no end and completely dominated the entire tank making all my other fish jump into the wet/dry filter (brought him back) Will never buy a tomato again! evil fish!

I am wondering the same thing. I have Xenia's in my DT and do not have any trouble controlling it's growth. They do come right off.

Green Star Polyps on the other hand...........take forever to work off and out of the rockwork!!!

Of course catching a demon damsel fish is probably more difficult as they refuse to keep still like the GSP's do!

wait u can just pull off the xenia colonies? ... that would have been my answer that they are a plague, I've been cutting them and adding them to new frag squares and taking them to the LFS because I feel bad, but if you can just pull them off that would make my life much easier

My tank has been up and running for almost 2 weeks and the worst thing I have put in there is a glass thermometer. Woke up yesterday and these little blackish grey balls were on the sand bed and the rest of the thermometer was floating on the top. Luckily I only have two live rocks and one base rock. The live rock closet to where to blackish grey balls were was stressed a light tan color but this morning the color of the live rock is coming back. Whewwwww. The ammonia went up to .5 and I am doning another water change tonight.

Interesting about the Chromis.........I have tried twice to have a little school (8) of Chromis and both times one of them killed all the rest, one by one.

I now have a pair of them and they seem to get along just fine.

In the small amount of reefing time I have put in so far I think Green Star Polyps have been the worst idea yet. The grow like crab grass from one corner of the tank to the other....even on the shell of an astrea snail. Obviously will not be doing that again.

I hope this isn't common... I was planning on adding them to a small corner of the tank isolated from the rest.

Purple Pseudochromis. Never see my 3 green chromis until feeding time. They used to school out in the open. I still can't catch him. He's pretty though.

While I can agree with the early post suggesting xenia, I too found it profitable--to the tune of a 180 plus MH lighting for it. And I can also sympathize with the star poly posters. And mine were the brownish ones at that--not even very pretty. I can concede the mushrooms, also, after spending the past three weeks eradicating them from the Columbine reef, including sacrificing a 35lb LR to the LFS (they hacked it up for frags).

But my worst addition, like many here, has to be the blue-devil damsel. I consider myself a fairly intelligent guy; I can use a semi-colon correctly (see this sentence), do the Friday NYTimes crossword in an hour or so, and have read War and Peace by Tolstoy (totally worth it, BTW), but for some reason I didn't consider the common name of this fish before I added it. It was a DEVIL for sure. In a 225 with 8 other fish, it was the boss, chasing, nipping, and terrorizing the lot. I spent a good three weeks with a fish trap--during my off periods instead of grading (maybe there's hope for this fish after all?)--luring it and trying not to spook it before catching it.

-------Disclaimer: If you're squeamish, ethically sensitive, or just ate, do not read further------

When I finally caught him I stuck a knife through his head and fed him to the haddoni carpet anemone. Cruel? Maybe. But it was the freshest, most natural meal that anemone has had in its seven years in captivity. And I did feel bad--for about a second.

I can't believe I had to wait for page 5 to see somebody mention GSP.. I HATE that stuff. It looks pretty till it grows all over EVERYTHING.

Also I got Mojano's from some local guy and I didn't know what they were till they spread all over the place. Every time I see that guy I cuss under my breath.

It has to be mojano. I had one little green one with pink tips. I didnt know what they where till it was too late. I have tried every kind of poison and killed a few corals trying to get rid of them. What a nightmare.

Years ago, I caught a few crabs on the beach. Decorator had a zoa on his back after a while, but the real culprits were the 2 that grew up to be stone crabs. They killed several corals and may have been to blame for a fish or 2 that went missing. Not easy to remove either.

cleaner wrasse!!! i added 2 a few weeks ago and watched them do work on the 3 tangs in my tank. The Dejardini Sailfin said enough and chassed them around for a few minutes and then they both went in the holes in the rocks and never came out. 25 bucks and they did not last through the night!!!

flame angel... and the fish must have thought so too.. picked at a few corals every now and then and he must have felt guilty or something because he committed carpet surfing suicide, which is odd since you dont hear of it too often.

Purple Pseudochromis… BOOOO Im real sorry to hear this I’ve always wanted one.

I would have to say my worst one was a Tomato Clown from the wrong side of the tracks. After he killed several fish and cost me over $100 in fish deaths I got him out of the tank.
I think I was so ****ed I flushed his *** down the toilet… that was a real long time ago really don’t remember if I did that if ya know what I mean… wink wink

Because of other issues with territorial fish I find that once the tank is cycled I have fewer losses if I buy a most of my fish at one clip and toss them in together.

2nd non animal

A 30lb rock

I got real excited when I got my first reef book and found that I could put lime based rock in my tank. I raced down to the local stone quarry and got my self a huge slab of Pennsylvania Lime Stone.

This one rock must have weighed 30 lbs. I thought I could chisel a hole in the center and make a nice decoration but found the rock was tough as steel. I pondered my position a while and came up with a new approach... I broke out the concrete saw and started cutting. Several hours later I had only made several lines maybe ½ inch deep. Exhausted but now more determined I grabbed the chisel and hammer smashed on it until I could no more. I ended up putting it in the tank just to prove I won the battle over that damn rock.

That rock looked like crap in my tank

I love to hate mine, very smart and fun fish to watch. The problem with mine is very territorial, I cant put anything else in the tank. Haven't been able to catch him---Yet!
