Other than that it works great. I have no fear of it ever overflowing and I know it can handle more gph than I will be able to ever pump into the tank. (Thinking of doing dome diy tidal surg someday far from now so it may need to briefly be able to handle more gph)

I have to agree with all of that. 1.5 inch pipe can handle a LOT of flow under syphon. It's not necessary unless you have a monster tank. I designed my tank as a peninsula so the end with the overflow I just let the coralline algae grow over it. I won't have to see the inside of the box eventually.

I have been busy doing some side projects over again.
The wife said that the water from the rejected Rodi filter made the clothes smell "stale". I don't think they smell any different now but she is happy. I connected the rejected water to the utility sink instead. Sent from my SM-G900T using Tapatalk

Worked on the electric connections to the tank. I pulled one 20 amp and one 15 amp lines to the basement from my empty spots in the box.

Thats a nice list. Lyretail are nice but Sunburst look really cool and a little less common but a bit pricey. If you have any trouble with the tangs not getting along just put a nice size mirror by the tank... atleast that worked for me.

Got the 15 amp outlet fixed. Had a bad connection to the neutral buss bar in the breaker box. It took me forever to figure out what was wrong... tried 3 different outlets believing that I had bought a bad one. Glad I am not an electrician...

I tore out the return plumbing for the tank because of 2 leaking connections in the PVC to some fittings. I think it was because I hardly used any purple primer for fear of dripping it on the outside of the white fittings and getting purple stains on them. After tearing it out I decided to plum the returns differently. Instead to 2 there are 4 now and the pipes are on top of the tank instead of being in the way by taking up space in the back. I will post pictures when I am sure my new design has no leaks.

How would I work on the tank from the back room then? I couldn't see what I am doing below the water line. Plus how would I clean the back wall of the tank? Wouldn't scrapping any coraline algae off the glass take paint off too? I can see painting the outside glass but, I would still have the same problem of being able to see the outline of the overflow box.

Well, like my German grandmother used to say, " wenschon denschon" aka " if you are going to do something, make sure you do it right or don't do it at all." Looks like your only hope may be to scrape off the silicone from the back, paint the tank, and make a box of glass and attach using piping instead of silicone to the tank. Or, just leave it and be unhappy every time you see it. Or, buy one of those think plastic rolls and put it inside of the tank so you can remove for maintenance, but won't see the box at all other time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I'd try painting the whole thing black on the back but understand where you're coming from for maintenance.
What about painting the overflow black and using black acrylic cut to fit to cover the back? You can take the black acrylic down when you have maintenance. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I had this issue and just took 2 pieces of plywood and painted them black and then placed them up against the outside back of the tank. I can move it when doing maintenance and put back when Im done. But then again my tank doesn't have an overflow on the back of it so Im not sure how you would cover the overflow other than maybe black acrylic on the inside of your tank.

Instead of painting the back of the tank, I use a piece of black cloth behind my 180.
Easy to clean the glass without marring the paint and you can also easily change colors if you so desire. |

Added some LED water resistant light strips under the stand and around the horse trough... I can see what I am working on now... and it can look like a disco party:
