Very Nice~ Maybe we should follow protocol :P . But I gotta know, did you grow those colonies in from frags in less than two years? I love the color changes across the tank. You have a nice flow hell even your fish colors were well chosen. I can see I need to add some chromis every time I see them in a tank they always highlight along with anthias. Strong work that is one of the best looking reefs I have seen.

Thank You.
The tank is only 5 months old. I usually don't buy small colonies, because their survival rate isn't as good as large ones. I just see something nice at the LFS and purchase it, and so far have been lucky. I've lost count from the point that I hit $15K spending, so I"m assuming around $20K by now. I'm a big fan of acans, and they are not cheap ![]() I like chromis, too. Sometimes they line up one after another in front of my tunze's and swim just like in the wild. |

Well my first tank was a 60gallon and only cost a total of 2K to put together (with everything). Once you go big and SPS, it's like taking Benjies and throwing them in the tank.

1. I don't quarantine new stock
2. I used EM to cure a cyano outbreak (NO ill effects) 3. I bought my RO unit off eBay 4. Two of my tanks are skimmerless (1 reef, 1 FOWLR) 5. My 30g & 65g are overstocked according to the 'rules' 6. I use *gasp* biological filtration on ALL my tanks. NO3 is 0 in all but one, where it measures <5ppm 7. I keep three angels in the same tank 8. (This one's not by choice) my tanks run hot, 82-87F depending on the weather

1. I don't quarantine anything. I do dip corals, but sometimes if I think they won't survive the dip, I skip it.
2. I follow my own rules for when I can add things. I feel that this benefit comes from having experience with dealing problems when they crop up. I added an RBTA to my 12g at about 8 weeks. 3. I have kept sps/lps/softy mixed 10g tank skimmerless w/ just 36w of light and a hob aquaclear type filter. 4. This space reserved for my future rule breaking ![]() This thread is funny. I think rule-breaking is allowed. Rules are meant to be broken... you just have to be willing to accept any/all consequenses. Here's a pic right after I added the RBTA. He's been in the same spot since: ![]() -A

What type of silicate are you adding??
Sodium silicate solution. This article has more: Silica in a Reef Tank http://advancedaquarist.com/issues/jan2003/feature.htm

1) I cut my hands and arms and then dip them in the tank with exposed cuts and don't wash afterwards. Sometimes I work on my Jeep before hand and don't get all the grime out from undernear my fingernails.
2) I just took down my skimmer and went basic - one SEIO and one 30 g power head in my 55 with a aquaclear HOB w/ surface skimmer. Woot woot!!! I also dumped my fuge and put the chaeto right in the main tank. I actually thing it look cooler. The mandarin went insane with joy. 3) I have a pack rat syndrome for fish stuff and have yet to sell all my old skimmer, lights and other junk I played with. I am breaking my "stop buying crap" rule 4) I went from weekly water changes to once a month and everything is growing like mad. I keep it simple cuz I am a simple guy - GSP, zoas and 5 little fish in a 55. Oh and some shrooms. I gotta get more shrooms baby.

lets see where to begin. the truth is I have more stories about other people than myself, this happens when you work at a LFS for 3 years you hear it all. someof them are.
1-a guy urinated in his tank cause he did not want to wait for the damsels to eat to produce ammonia nor pay for the damsels to do it. 2- another family bought a tank and then went on vacation for a month and couldnt understand why the tank was green, they left the light on the whole time. 3- another guy had a 3.5 - 4 ft nurse shark in a 240 and didnt understand why he would not stop growing. "but fish only grow to the size of their tank" was his reasoning for it. as for me I think i have broken them all. I never did a single water change on my first 2.5 gallon, never tested, never QT'd, never acclimated, never fed, never added anything except tap H2O top off, and if something died it was left in there to feed the rest of the tank. and before i worked at the LFS whenever they wanted an H2O test before i could take things home i would use brand new salt water and take that in, or the water they sold there. and here is the pic of the 2.5 that I did all those things with, or I guess didn't do... ![]()

Of course, there is no ammonia in human urine. He cycled the tank for urea-producing fish. ![]()
