Following along this thread. A lot of good information so thanks to all who contributed.
I am thinking about buying the 210 gallon tank but $3,000 is quite pricey for me. Is SCA pretty firm on the price or is there room for negotiation? I saw earlier someone made an offer and got a pretty good deal. Any insights are greatly appreciated. |

there is typically some wiggle room and if you buy things like a stand or equipment you can get some decent deals. IE If you were looking to get Ecotech or Kessil lighting they can normally hook you up.

For those that had the .5" and 1" overflow, how did you configure your overflow? I only plan to have 300 GPH or so of flow through the sump. Return is a Eheim 1262.
I ordered the ABS bulkheads and .5" loc line. I don't want to drill it.

Any of you built a glass top for these tanks? I have the SC150 and would like to have a glass top. Jerry.

why would you want a glass top? That stops gas exchange, allows salt creep on the glass which impacts par, and numerous other issues.

I'd do a screen over glass any day. Have you looked at the ClearView lids? I'll be ordering one for my custom build here soon.

ClearView lids are made by a local company named Artfully Acrylic in Manassas VA, great guys! I've seen their work in both custom tanks and the lids, fantastic work. They also have a space next door to their shop where they sell corals and fish (named Incredible Corals), the only place I buy my corals now! |

I also really wish the theory of limited gas exchange when employing a glass or acrylic top would die - with the turnover of water from sump and back, plus a skimmer running, there are typically zero issues with having a glass top on the tank.

As zooman has pointed out this 150 is going in a closet of a bedroom that has become my office. I want the tank sealed up tight to reduce the humidity inside the closet. The sump and related equipment sits in the basement below this closet which would allow for plenty of air exchange.

Nearing completion on the stand, The Tardis.
Stained Chalk Painted Navy Distressed a little. Antiqued and waxed. Last step is to apply PolyAcrylic and get this thing indoors.

Exactly why I use glass tops on all my tanks. Gas exchange with sumps and skimmers should really not be a concern. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would definitely use a glass top if I did not have a good tight canopy- I may use one even in a canopy to prevent salt creep. But since I am typically lazy I am afraid I would not clean it regularly enough and then the corals would suffer from decreased light.

Does SC Aquariums offer any warranty on their tanks? I couldn't find anything on their website. Thanks.

Yes they offer warranty. I think it is 1 year tank only or 3 years with their wood stand. Someone else can confirm or you can just call up Steve.

Hi all I'm new to the hobby and RC. I was about to pull the trigger on a RS Reefer 170, until I saw some posts about SCA's.. After doing some research and emailing Steve at SCA, I placed my order for a 50gal cube drilled for a herbie and I upgraded to the 36" oak stand. I plan on using the stock pump and skimmer to start out and will upgrade if needed. I'll also be using a Kessil a360we for lighting. Anyone have any pointers on setup or care to share things they wish they would have done on their setups? thanks

There are build threads in the tank journal forum on here. Look at Homer's for one that is close to the size you are getting. I personally would throw out the plumbing the tank comes with and use all of my own PVC and such for it but that is me.

Yep- my same tank as well. MY bill thread doesn't show costs- so heart friendly. LOL. Much of the equipment ( skimmer, lights, pumps, rock, sand, refugium/sump tanks) I am using in my new setup I already had or got used for cheap. So , it can be done - but even then it ain't a cheap hobby.
