mike i like the look of that program. its a pretty long photoperiod, as a whole, and you may want to drop the morning intensity a little..
your second list of colour mix shots aren't in chronological order but i suppose that doesn't matter since the full light schedule shots don't show any funny peaks.. i think its pretty good.. the other thing i forgot to mention (d'oh!!) is that i run a very regular cloud simulation. i think it gives the corals little breaks when the lights are very intense. the frequency i forget, but it goes on all day up to a max 30% dimming..

actually, i spoke too soon..
that peak from 2pm to 5pm is pretty intense. theres a lot of white.. it worries me a little.. that's close to how i had my last program and i turned down the whites.. what energy setting do you run the mitres at? but if you have fewer fixtures or a higher tank, maybe it's ok..

Hi Matt,
thank you for taking you time . hopefully this will help others as well. my tank is 72x36x24, run 4 mitras at HO-85% i lower morning intensity 8.30 am-10 am --10%lower. lower whites, green, yellow and red respectively in 2-5pm period. i would love to upgrade to 6200 just cant ajustify spending some much $$ for 4 units. dont see any needs for yellow and red , really. ordered PAR meter so hopefully in next few days i can measure PARs. Here is some screen shots. Please, let me know if you can recomend more adjustments.. thankx

Hey Sahin, thanks! I'm holding out for your fts!
Actually, I'm mulling over starting a thread because my tank is not exactly where I want it to be and I think I'm experiencing some common reef problems.. I use two giesemann aquapinks and two giesemann lagoon blue bulbs from 10am to 8pm Mike, I like that mix better.. So you have a considerable amount of light- 4 Mitras over a 6 foot span. I'm not sure you need to be running them on HO.. You might want to put the light into HE mode and run them at 80%. The tank will seem much more dim to you but the corals might be happier.. I must say, I'm not entirely comfortable giving all of this lighting advice as I'm really no expert.. Experimentation is really the key.. The only thing I feel is really important is to err on the side of too little light because corals don't get shocked from too little light. But if they get bit by too much, it can take months for them to recover and you'll be scratching your head wondering why the coral is doing badly even though you lowered the lights a long time ago... Like everything that happens in a reef, the damage takes an instant but the recovery takes forever...

Hey guys. I've been following this thread for way longer than I'd like to admit being on the fence about leds. A couple months back my tank crashed and I thought I was done with it. Long story short i decided to rebuild. My Mitras should be arriving tomorrow. Aaron (or anyone who may have it) is there any way I can get your light project? The links you put up a while ago doesn't seem to be working for me. Or anyone else have a good one that I should start with? Thanks in advance.

Tomn drop a note to Anim8me2 and get with him. He has a whole library of projects and I would imagine he probably has more than you'd ever need/want. Ian is a wealth of information and a great resource for our community.
On a side note.. WELCOME to the world of Mitras We're glad you decided to rebuild and look forward to seeing your tank come together |

I hope it works for you. As I mentioned to Michael, recently, next to good lighting and proper stable parameters, I think tonnes of food and great nutrient export are also key to good sps colour.. But I'm sure you are aware of this...

Good catch Gazz... I'm not sure if I was looking at the wrong link or if I merely imagined more projects but fact of the matter is you're 100% correct.
My apology for mis-stating the facts up there. |
