What would be a good spec build for the A6 link below?
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/55...55_gallon.html

Optical Lens? Also I don't see a 120 optical which would provide more spread... wonder why only 30, 60, 90?

White/Blue? I prefer a bit more blue, but I can always dim as needed.

LEDs without lenses are 120 degrees...
You don't need much...
Get a 55x3w from aliexpress.com....
$165 free shipping... Ask Sam for a 30 blue/25 white.

The nova is bad azz but it would be a MAJOR overkill

Ian do you run no lenses on a 24"tall 18"wide tank or 90s?

And can I come check out your units still sometime? If so get me an address so I can see how far you are from me thanks

And that light you suggested would be adequate for a 46 gallon or 55 gallon? Which build spec, do you have the link please Ian? I would also want the dimmable as well, but guessing you understood that from posts.

Well according to Sam they make 30,60,90,120degree LEDs "without lenses". With 90degree LEDs being 97% of there orders. Just what he told me.

Here is what he made up for me 30blue/25white no lens http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/5...um-lights.html

Ok,,, my badd I thought you where talking about your 29 gal.

How long was the tank?
I'm using 2 on a 48"x24"x30"

If your tank is longer than that or shallower than that get 120 degree LEDs

Contact Sam and he can set it up for 30b/25w if you want
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs...olesalers.html

Power(watt)
165(55pcsx3W)

Yes,you have lenses, Im just saying you can get 90 degree LEDs without lenses that have more spread of light than the spotlight effect 90degree optics will have on a not as deep tank. optics will get you deeper penitration.

Are the optics on these lights like a magnifing glass or are they just a reflector that limits the spread of light?

I'm looking at a pair of dimmable Nova A4s for a 40g breeder SPS dominant tank.

Is this overkill, and would a pair of the $165 dimmable 3x55w be a better solution? I tend to like the LED cluster style better than the grid, I would imagine they give a little more punch and a stronger shimmer...

Its just preference. The A4 is an updated and better design, and should be much easier to work with internally in case something happens. Its modular too, so you can link 2 units together. If you ever wanted to try installing different leds, the A4 is the way to go.

Two $165 units would still be very capable, and give about the same light. You would be saving about $100 too. If the new updates don't mean much to you, two $165s would be the best value.

Get one of each. which ever one works best get another one of and put the other one on your 20 nano.

Or get one Nova try it out and if its not enough light for the 40 then order another.....shipping is free

This is my personalized link. Email to customize the lights however you want and have your link created.

http://www.aliexpress.com/store/3178...e-NOVA-A4.html

You get quantity discounts for more than 1, so its best to buy two or more at a time if you need them.

I must say aliexpress has made a big jump in my ordering list being that you can customize your leds even adding some violets!

I saw jk1138s boostled unit and I looove the color of it! Its perfect so I'm trying to copy there ratio into a aliexpress unit a boost has

119 leds at 1watt each
There is 65 royal blues, 42 whites and 12 true vieolets

So I thought by cutting this in half you'd be close to a 55 piece unit something like
32 blues
21 whites
6 violets ..... So that's as close to half as I can get but its 59 leds so gotta take 4 out yet keep it even .. id say either

30 blues
21 whites
4 violets
Or
30 blues
20 white
5 violets

You would think the boostled combo would be super blue but its not to me its perfect such a crisp look exactly what I'm trying to get. Any opinions would be awesome

Looks to be a reflector and a curved lens... Not magnifying....

First off... SAMs the man... Ok...ok... I promis I won't say that again,,, but dam that man is effng helpful

Those violets will increase the alge growth in your tank...
And if you are using lenses I wouldn't add the violet...
My 30 blue /25 white accomplished a bluer tank... Quite well...
Many people don't realize that the t5s and power compacts come in pink and purple, but no one buys them... Coral wave and coral accelirator are the color names...
Yes it adds light your coral can benifit from...
BUT this is also is the same nm wavelength that alge will benifit from... And more alge is going to negatively affect your coral..
Double positive = double negative

If your gonna add a purple I'd say just 1 (one )in the second row and no lenses (120) or it could stand out...like a shadow

And for future referance red LEDs have no place in the Marine aquarium... Unless your growin grass in your tank....

Also why are you looking at 1watt LEDs?????
Get the 55x3w and don't go more than 2x1 ratio
Like I said I'm quite blue with 30 blue/25 white

Would you recommend two of the Nova A4's or A6's over a 48" long tank, or two of the 55x3's?

I've emailed Sam and asked for:

Dimmable Nova A4, 120 degree optics, 7:5 blue to white LEDs per cluster, with Bridgelux LEDs. I'll post a link if he puts it up on Aliexpress.

Would you believe that Sam already emailed me back!? WOW.

Only thing he has an issue with is the change of the blue/white LED ratio. it would require one dimmer to handle 24 blues and the other to handle 20 whites *plus* 4 of the blues. Makes sense since they are only able to put 24 LEDs per channel.

He says 90 degree optics should be fine for a 24" x 18" coverage area, and no trouble on the BridgeLux LEDs. Shouls have a quite shortly.

Still, I am seriously impressed with the response time and clear communication.

I am up in the air on the Cree 60watt or the 120 watt Box led from Ali express. The cree come with optics , 120 looks like none. Does wattage real make difference? I am setting up a 40x40x20 cube so I will need 2 of these. Thanks
