I'm not sure why so many use the W , I had the 350N and now the 360N and with a 24" wide, 22" deep tank it covers well, I think the wide may help with shading ?

I think the W would have been too much light spill over and the N looks pretty good.

Aside from that, the control level of the Kessil vs other T5 units. Yes, there are dimmable T5 units out there but why spend the money on a new T5 fixture when I could get an LED fixture with better controls and no bulb replacement?

As of now I'm just trying to determine what the best lighting schedule / acclimation would be.

36L x 36W x 20"H

I have 2 Kessil a160we's, could I get 2 more (four 160's total) and have good coverage to support an sps reef?

Any other lighting suggestions? I'd like to put these two 160's to use instead of losing a bunch of money on them as they are basically new.

Thanks for the input guys!

This was a qt tank for sps that turned into a LPS tank and now it is full of LPS and sps and is thriving.
It's a innovative marine 30long with 3 Kessil 350w's running only blue 12 hrs a day.
The pic above is and old pic after LPS was added I will get a newer pic posted.

So I sent the 160 back and picked up the 360WE instead. Pretty happy with it so far.

I've read most of this thread but there's a lot to take in. Can some one give me a decent beginner set up (color & intensity) that I can work from please? I get intensity is more critical than color with Kessils and the controller but its kinda confusing for a noob.

Depends on the tank and what corals your keeping?

JBJ 30g rimless w/ display area of 23" wide x 14.5 deep (front to back) x 16" tall. Sand bed is 2" deep and water line is 3/4" below the tank rim and the light is 9" above the rim.

First SW tank set up 2 days ago. I used 20 lbs of live sand and 30-ish lbs of wet cycled live rock that was transported completely covered in 75° water and is mostly pukani. If it actually cycled it never spiked or did so quickly tests 24 hours apart didn't show it. I've put some hermits in there now with a few snails, Asterina stars, and feather dusters that hitchhiked in on the rock. Everything seems to be doing well. I fed the hermits today and will test again tomorrow.

So for coral my LFS gave me a couple of mushrooms when I bought the live rock, one purple and one spotted. The spotted is doing amazing so far it was the size of a dime when I placed it, and this afternoon it was all stretched out nicely on the rock the size of a US 50¢ coin. The purple just looks ok, its got bigger and stretched out a little but I might need to reposition it.

As things develop I plan on on some GSP, then zoas, then work up to LPS. I really like the looks of bubbles, hammers, and brains.

Livestock plans: pair of ocellaris (snowflake maybe), blue eyed midas blenny, blood red fire shrimp. That's about it.

Just ordered an AP700 for my 57 mixed reef (36x18x20). I don't have an iPad or an Android device, so I'll be waiting for the iPhone release. How are people controlling the light without the app? Are there any default programs on the fixture? Anyone taking a crack at cracking the light and developing a web API for it?

For me, when i first got my kessil 360, I had my 12 gallon nano. Now I am in a 20 gallon long.

But for intensity and color, I found that the more blue/color I had the better my coral has grown. I started out about 40% intensity and 60% color and raised my intensity 5% every month. Slow process.

But now I am at max of 100% intensity on a ramp schedule and max of 40% color.

Be slow about raising your intensity, etc. When introducing coral, keep an eye on them and start them low and slowly raise them to their final place.

Here is my current schedule in apex -

I'm running three Kessil 360WE at max intensity 100% in my 65 g tank. It took a year to get there though. I have no bleaching problem. Most of the corals show good growth.

I am in the process of setting up a 40 (36x18x16) gallon breeder, with fish, softies and lps's, and I was planning on using T5's. I came across these for sale and they sounded pretty good. Would they work for the tank I am planning?

Yes, there are default programs on the fixture. Just FYI, I picked up an iPad off craigslist for cheap..

So I have a question. I have a 60 cube. I have one 360we over it. It's about 8" off the top of the water and pretty much centered in the middle of the tank. I'm running it at 70% power and 45% color. I have a few sps that are around 10" from the bottom of the tank and others that are 8" under the top of the water. I have noticed that one of them at the top is not putting out polyps on one side anymore. Is this from the light? Will this be enough light for this tank or should I add a second one?
Thanks

I would run two lights personally.

I have found someone selling 4 A150W's in Deep Ocean Blue. I am setting up a 40 gallon breeder, would these lights work for my setup for softies and lsp's?

For softies you wouldn't need T5's unless you want to knock down the shimmer. I would personally run all 4 of you have them. However 3 would work fine.

I don't have them. I found them craigslist for $125 a piece, and they looked like a good deal.

Hi everyone. Just put an AP700 over my Red Sea Reefer 250 (35.5x22x22). Besides some crappy software, I love the light. I am having some issues figuring out how high to run the intensity. Anyone want to share what they run their lights at and their schedule? I have been keeping mine at around 30% max (ramp up-down) until my coral (mixed) get used to the light. I usually stay in the bottom 25% of the color wheel, and havent been much up into the white range.

Someone asked about using Kessils with a canopy. I don't like the light spilling out all over the room, especially since my tank is in the living room, next to the TV.

I drilled holes in the top of the canopy, keeping the fixtures outside, dry, and well ventilated.
The canopy keeps the light in the tank.

The holes are just a bit smaller than the fixtures but don't block light. The rubber pads keep the fixtures from sliding out of place.

Plenty room inside the canopy, no fixtures or wires.

I want to take this to another level and add a 3rd lighting component. Some type of other Led. I tried (when putting this together) adding 3 more kessils so two pendants per 24inch and it didn't really seem to add to much so opted to run single Kessil pendant per 24in. Which I love. I want to add some other type of led to just run the POP colors (royal blue and Uv) and can't decide which LED's to go with. So this light fixture would be a unique hybrid.

Any ideas?

Your intensity at peak should be higher after 7 months...at least 75%. I'm at 90% and have the same coral you mention, doing fine. I've been with the Kessil club for almost 2 years now.

Been away from the hobby for a few years now and really not familiar with LED and how far it's come. I'm looking for some input on a system I have access to - It's a DSA 34 gal cube (24x24x18) that has one Kessil 160WE tuna blue. Realistically, what are my limitations with this in terms of what I can care for comfortably?

Should I be looking to add another to be good enough for a Rose BTA or possibly haddoni?
