I would pull the gfo out for a week or two and see if that will help seed the pellets.

OK one year update on using EgoBak Pellets.
I have 180 gallon mixed reef tank. That I could not keep clean for more than a day or two. So Jon sent me some EgoBak to try out. I started with 1L of pellets in May of 2010 and in November of 2010 I added 500ML more because I used up 500ml in six months. Now in July I need 1L again.
My tank in the last year has been very clean. Now I have been all most out of EgoBak for the past two weeks and I do see some brown showing up on my tank. Yes I did call Jon and ordered more 1L. I hope to have by Friday.
EgoBak Rock my Tank! This is one of the best products I have used in this hobby in more than 15 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Way to go Jon Warner!

Remember that pellets need to tumble ever so slowly. I have mine tumbling all most to a stall. The slower the better. If they move to fast all you are doing is washing off the bacteria and they will not work.

Anyone have videos showing the flow/tumble? I think I saw one on here, and I thought it was moving pretty quick...?

Also, are you pulling any other media? ie. gac, phosguard/rowaphos? Thanks!

How about dosing vodka - mb7 or special blend at the same time as running the pellets? I assume not, as both are a carbon source?

I have not used one in over 10 years. I think with good skimmer and reef keeping you should not need one. Also the UV is killing off the bacteria that the pellets need.

That should not be a problem. I need to get my 1L replacement pellets from Jon first. They are on the way to me.

I was in the same boat as you RXfoote searching for where to buy. I did finally find where to buy and it should be here next mon or tuesday.

I have an Avast Marine Works MR5 Media Reactor which is 18" tall and holds 8 cups. My tank setup is a 110 gallon DT with a 15 gallon sump. I will start by adding 2 cups of the pellets to the reactor. My plan will to plumb the reactor off the return pump which is a Mag 9 with great flow to the return. I will add a valve to control the flow to get around 200gph through the reactor. The return off the reactor will be into the skimmer bay of the sump. Is this the correct way to do this? Is there anything else I need to do?

1) I'd love to know where people are ordering from - Last time I looked around, it wasn't very popular

2) Yeah, make sure the output from the reactor is right at the input to your skimmer and I'd advice a good skimmer. Stuff is working well for me but my skimmer has been much more active lately
