Do you have a sump? I can't believe your only filteration is a HOB filter and you succesfully kept all those corals
Keep up the good work! |

Nope.. no sump.. just a AC70 filter and AquaC Remora Skimmer.
I don't trust going with a sump because my neighbours blow the fuse box all the time and in the summer especially I am not home for 3 days at a time and don't need to come back to a flood because a pump shorted out. I'm just kinda paranoid about that sort of thing. |

I upgraded the camera last July. It helped a bit for pick quality, but it is mostly taking my time taking the pics and being more selective.
The black hermits I got at my LFS here in Canada. Just some quick updated shots of this tank. Not much has changed over the last month. I have three peppermint shrimp in this tank. They only come out at night. Two males and one female heavy with eggs right now. Both bengaii cardinals are still in this tank, and the smaller one is not being picked on as much as before and so is able to eat more and is looking better. Big Momma and Jigsaw are displaying more and more breeding behavior every week and they have been looking for a more suitable area attempt to lay a nest. Also, here are some sps polyps shots. Which one do you like the best? |

So what fish do you have? I see the two clownfish, but what else?
I also have a 56g and am trying to figure out what I want to stock it with. Do you have anything covering the top of your tank to keep the flasher wrasse from jumping out?

Hi mltran,
sorry I didn't see your post until now.. but to answer your question. - 2 clownfish - 2 bengaii cardinal - 1 blue devil damsel (she's blind in one eye, otherwise I wouldn't have her). - 1 McCosker's Flasher Wrasse - 1 Starry Blenny I would suggest any of the above but the damsel, as they have a really bad reputation for being aggressive and they do live up to their damsel name. I would suggest for your tank a possibility of the following: - 1 or 2 clownfish - 1 bengaii cardinal (because it is really hard to find a male and female to pair and anything of the same sex fights each other) - The smaller fairy and flasher wrasses are awesome, any of them under 3.5inches (Carpenters, McCosker's, Yellow tail etc) and they add a lot of personality to the tank as they swim through all the rockwork and flash at each other, but you have to ensure you have netting on the top to keep them from jumping out. - Blennies also have a lot of personality. - Scissortail gobies/dartfish have lots and lots of personality, but prefer to be in groups of three or more. - Firefish gobies prefer pairs and are very pretty. It also looks nicer with this size of tank to keep the fish under 3.5inches as much as possible. I have seen people put yellow tangs in these tanks and they just make it look too cramped. Hope this helps. |

Thanks so much for your input! Your tank looks so nice!
Right now I have 1 clownfish, a Longnose Hawkfish, and a Royal Gramma. I was thinking about getting a pair of PJ Cardinals, a flame angel, a trio of Flasher wrasses or just one, and a mimic saddle puffer. I really wanted an Auriga Butterfly, but I guess it would get too big and make the tank look cramped. By the way I don't plan on doing corals. Does the flasher wrasse flash even though there are no other wrasses in the tank?

You have a good list going on in your tank right now, but I would watch the compatibility of a few of the fish. If you get a pair of pj cardinals, like the bengaii you need to ensure they are a male and female pair otherwise they will fight each other. I would stick with only one. They also get large.
A trio of flasher wrasses would look a lot nicer. Two females and one male. The male would flash a lot in this case. If you only get one male, he will flash, but not as much as he would if there was another flasher wrasse in the tank with him, nor as brightly. |

Just a couple more pics.. mostly of my new addition. A 2nd McCoskers flasher wrasse.
I find it rather interesting how much these guys loose color if they are the only ones in the tank with themselves and they grow larger. The new guy, a much smaller juvenile is very bright and eats like a piggy. the old guy (I still have him in this tank) Then some pics of my clowns Big Momma and Jigsaw and then of the larger Male Bengaii, Monster and Sam the Blenny Then here is my Sebae anemone and Jigsaw. The sebae has decided it wants to go through a growth spurt. Mostly this is due to the fact that Jigsaw is now feeding it left over flake food he catches when he has had his fill. |
