One more thing... I do not care for the egg crate that I put on top of my tank to prevent jumping. It blocks out a good bit of light, especially on the ends and in the middle.

I hate to spend a lot of money purchasing a canopy......

Here are some pictures (as posted in another thread):

with egg crate:

without egg crate:

It does look very good installed though and is hardly noticable from the front:

I added one of these rose anemones to my tank Friday and he disappeared into my live rock sometime Sunday night. Is that common? Will it reappear? Or should I dig in to the 135# of live rock to look for it?

As if you can't tell....this is (was) my first anemone.

I do not know enough about the rbta's to answer that question but... The first one I got, that died, disappeared into my rockwork after the second day. When i found it, the thing was nearly dead. I believe it would always seek good lighting unless stressed. Good luck.

How long did you acclimate it for?

If it were me though I would try to find it because if it is dead or dying then that may cause some probs w/tank. Ammonia spikes form decay, etc.

I tried to aclimate it as the LFS instructed taking about 2 hrs. Maybe that wasn't enough?

I will dig into the LR pile in the a.m. to see what I find. This should prove to be interesting...

I did my second/replacement rbta for four hours. I'd only done the first one for two hours. My method is to add 1/8 a cup of water to the back every 5 to 7 minutes for the four hours, after floating the bag the initial 15 minutes.

That seems to work well for me. I generally try to do fish for two hours and corals/inverts for 3 to 4 hours now. HTH

I got a seaswirl 3/4" model and it feeds my tank from the sump.
It rotates 90 degrees and spreads the 730gph from a mag 9.5 all over the tank - so it has a much better distribution of flow all over rather than a fixed flow.

check it out at

I really like mine....i'll post some pics of my updated new 90g tonight.

I had to jump in here as we had problems with dead/low flow spots in our tank. With a 150g and 300lbs lr, this was almost unavoidable. Although I hate the looks of the ph's in the tank, we purchased a few small (1200) maxijets and managed to hide them mostly behind the rockwork. We just added Hydor deflectors to the maxijets. This replaces the output tube on the maxijets. It rotates and has a deflector that swirls the water 360 degrees, which hits just about everywhere behind the rocks. Great little units.

I am most likely going to replace the maxijets with some SEIO pumps. My problem with the MJ's is that the flow is simple not enough.

Yes, I did. A bit pricey for what I want to accomplish though. Also, I do not want it to feed off my outtake form my sump.

by the way....about the eggcrate...you can cut out bigger pieces to let more light in. so every 4 cubes become one big cube

Warboc, here's what it looks like without powerheads - the seaswirl is on the top right.

Well today is the day I get my base rock in from hirocks.com. I ordered 60 pounds of it and I hope to get it all into the tank very soon.

A random picture from the weekend:

Just prop it up on the back of a couch or chair. Works just as good.

I added sixty pounds of base rock from hirocks.com today. Actually, I just finished doing it. Here is the finished product.

Note: the corals are mostly closed right now and the water is still cloudy.

Warboc, how often do you do water changes and how would it be done in a 75 gallon which I'll be doing soon. My dad and I plan on building the stand next week; can't wait for some father and son bonding time.

I do an 18 gallon water change ever other weekend. I am probably goign to do a 8 to 10 gallon change on the other weekends now though, to keep calcium levels up and more stable.

So you do a 20% water change that makes it a 15 gal water change in a 75 gal. Does that sound like enough for everyother weekend?
