LH, if you have a viable source to purchase pods from then do so. Or get your hands on some chaeto from someone local or a local LFS and grow your own.
Cukes go where the algae is.....your sandbed in my opinion needs to be tossed (turned over)....get a goby...

NRB: I got some eggcrate to cover the tank in preparation for the goby, which is next on the list. Along with a nice little spinny sea urchin.
Some more pics... Here are the first 2 fish, I started with 3 but one didn't make it after only a day and a half. Probably just too stressed as I picked them up soon after they arrived... These two are healthy and eagerly seeking and eating food. Here's a cool little sea star anybody know what it is? It's about the size of a half dollar piece. Here's the result of over buying rock rubble! I had no idea how much 10lbs of rock rubble was compared to the 10lbs of crud... Sooo, where does the cheato fit exactly?

nice LH - stock it up!! I like that starfish, bummer about the chromis. Could you toss some rubble in the tank or maybe glue some together in some shape to add to your aquascaping? just a thought - you could make an arch or something.
I was just reading in a magazine about how a rubble bottomed tank is good for soft frags, and it gave an example of a quartered yuma, just dropped randomly in the rubble tank - two months later there were five yumas! They just latch on as they please. jp

I'll use the excess for frags and coral attachment for sure. Next will go in some cheato and a goby to the display.

Nice setup Liquid! I have a mag 5 and 7 on the way. I plan on using the smaller pump for the return on the sump (well it will be a sump when I get the baffles on the 20g long under the display) . The 7 will be used for a melev scwd CL. I was just wondering, could you throw some plumbing links up for us noobs?

Make sure you go with large pipe! Bigger pipe means less restriction which means more flow. I initially had a mag12 for the CL but returned it for a pressure rated pump. Good luck and have fun, I did!

LH ok just got caught up with whats goin on. THe star looks like a small linkia (dont think i spelled that right. Chromis are cool, sorry you lost one. In any case just through the chaeto right in....Its does not have to move as long as it is getting light and waterflow, thats all you need.

Thanks guys!
This new Scolymia is just awesome. It is much larger today than yesterday. It does a lot of shape shifting. Very cool. So, I was doing a reg 10% water change yesterday when my 1 1/2year old son runs in and grabs my leg... I stop looking at what I'm doing for a split second to look at him with the siphon tube siphoning away... well, I sucked a 3 headed Xenia right off its rock, ripped it clean off! I quickly ran to the sump and pulled it out of the filter sock and glued it down to its frag rock. Today, it looks no worse for the wear! Amazing.

Having fun trying to take pictures of the reef, wonders what a tripod can do. I still have a ways to go! I know I need to do something with my white balance or....
Coolest critter (so far) he really gets around and into tight spots: The new Scolymia and porcelain crab: Spaghetti Worm? The Red Star/Linkia showed up after going MIA for about 5 days. The Emerald also showed up after 7 days since last sighting. The Xenia that I so carelessly sucked up... The branch on the right is the recovered and reattached victim. Looks like the lower branches are attached to a giant bubble algae. My new coral... awesome! Thanks for watching!

Indeed incredible LH, outstanding! I was meaning to comment on how clean your sand is now as well it looks spotless!
Wow what a laundry list of inhabitants, you have some of everything, very cool. What was it like acclimating and introducing the urchin? Look for an update to my thread later, I didn't come home alone today. . . jp

I've got some air tube that runs through a little sprinkler flow nozzle so I can fine tune the drip speed. Urchin went in like a snail or crab 45 minutes (min), slow drip acclimation. Sand is white because I'm siphoning the brownish/purple film algae straight out and it takes some sand with it, it's an every other day operation... In the meantime I'm coming up with a very interesting tank cleaning tool idea! ![]() I like critters... I'll post some more pics. Last edited by Liquid Hobby; 12/05/2006 at 04:05 PM. |

The Porcelain crab is pretty cool! It has taken up residence under the scoly and is happily filter feeding...
He's happy upsidedown with a nice scolymia blanket to keep him warm... The frogspawn is also recovering nicely from it's siphoning attack! The head in back is now starting to fully extend again, it's not colored up though. I'm not sure it's viewable in the photo, but the right side head has a little purple hue to it... |
