It'll be in the Chemistry forums. I'll post a link to it here once done.

Did a quick alk check earlier today and back down to 10dKH. Perfect.
I'm getting this ready to start testing a bunch of saltmix brands. I guess kind of like a saltmix shootout. 1000ml class b graduated cylinder Hydor Pico pump to mix and pulls from the bottom Just to check and adjust temp a super cheap digital thermometer but has always been consistent. I remember it being ever so slightly high. Double checked to night with a quick ice water test. And I'll be targeting 25C. As from late fall to early spring my house is around 65-68F. But late spring to early fall could be around 80F. I figured 77F/25C is a good middle ground I can easily adjust to. And a super easy way for me to adjust temp hotter or colder.... My kitchen sink. I just filled it with warmer water. In hotter temps I'll fill it with colder water. Then I'll use my pin point salinity probe to monitor when I hit the desired levels of 35ppt or 1.0264. And use my veegee refractometer as a cross check as well. I'll calibrate or at least check both for calibration before hand. I figure I'll try and calculate what the manufacturer suggests to get to that salinity level in 1000ml and make note of how much was actually needed or if it exactly as indicated. Then I will test for Calcium, Alkalinity, and Magnesium using Salifert kits.

I'm sad to say my microscope I've had for many years (decades? I'm getting old) broke.
I'm excited to say I just bought a new one. It's amazing what one can get now for relatively cheap. It will have a digital USB camera attached which I'm most excited about.

Quick alkalinity check tonight and I've hit 9dKH. My target range of 9-10 has been hit. I can stop adding muriatic acid now to my water change water.
I'm considering though lowering it down to 8. I don't think I've ever had it that low before. Not for any other reason other then curiosity.

I actually remember that. I still use the Madison float switch in my sump as a high emergency water level shutoff. And the other one on the back overflow of my display tank as an emergency shutoff as well in case somehow the bean animal drain fails.
it was from like autotopoff.com or something like that. I grabbed a gray lowes bucket that was not food safe. I ended up getting some kind of weird growth at the bottom as this was before I started adding limewater to my ATO but did use RODI. I swapped out the gray bucket for a food safe container. Then shortly after started using kalk. Thanks for the visit Mr Bot. That was pulls from sometime in 2009 very near the beginning of this thread.

One thing I have noticed when alk is lower is the bubble tips bubble more.

Justed making notes.
Aquamaxx says the EM300 draws 27watts. Killowatt says 32.91 average over 24 hour period. 2 gallons of Reef Crystals tested out to 25C 35ppt Alk 11.8dKH Calcium 550 Mg 1560 Had a ton of fun capturing images and video with the new microscope tonight. Will try uploading them later if any came out.

Cyano and some of the creatures living in it.
Sample was maybe around 1mm ~40x Can see the blurry swirls of the bigger creature I got images of in the next post.

~100x
The cyano strands are constantly moving weaving in and out of themselves. Biggest of the critters moving through the cyano and assume eating it

~1000x (at 2500x I could see a ton of micro organisms but the camera is limited to 1000x right now with my setup but a lot more life can be seen)
In the thick of it. Above was on the edges. This looked like snakes intertwining Few critters here This would twist like a corkscrew to move There was a lot of these swimming around See if you can find it in the next two pictures. This very thin filiment shoots across almost like its charged with electricity and corkscrewing at the same time. Very excited critter.

Then also saw a lot single celled organisms and protists with flagellates. Spent many hours exploring that tiny sample of cyano last night. I'll see what I can do for the video taken.

Over a week period my mag1800 with around 12' head height against it as a basement return pumping around 750gph has averaged around 71.18 watts. At 0 head its rated for 150watts. Going to run it on the skimmer again for a week this time.
