**FYI**

I havent read through this entire thread so I dont know if anyone has discovered or discussed this yet, but I thought I would chime in. I dont have an odyssea protein skimmer yet but I do have the pump that it comes with that I ordered from aquatraders. I have only had this pump for about 3 - 4 months and recently I took it apart for cleaning and realized the stainless steel rod had rust stains all over it. I dont know if it was the rod or the inside of the magnet, but I ended up replacing the rod with a carbon fiber one I got a hobby shop for $1 just in case. I would just recommend keeping an eye on that rod because if rust gets into your water, you could lose alot of livestock.

Hey guys need some help. I have the PS160 and im trying to set it up as HOB. I think I might be missing a part. Could someone maybe take a picture of there parts? Or just count how many parts they got total.

The tube that connects somehow to the pump seems to be to narrow to accept any of the plumbing accessories they included. I think I might be missing a piece, or just the intellect to put it together.

Thanks alot

Hello all......bad news, i popped off the back of my genx2400 and there was exposed metal with a touch of rust. I wasn't using it, but it rusted in a couple mths of use. I epoxy'd and cauk'd it so i won't worry about it anymore but, you all using them better pull them, let them dry after you check em and cauk em up.

Perfect solution for increased flow through. I tried to hook a sedra 500 to my ps 160 . No matter what I did to the pump. It would fill the cup in about 2-3 minutes. I didn't want to put a gatevalve on to restrict flow b/c this would be just like using the original pump. I found that by simply using 2'' pvc,( approx 3'' long beetween the cup and skimmer body. ) it raises it enough to maintain proper water level in the skimmer neck. The skimmate is disgusting compared to original pump.

Can you post pics of that pvc mod please?

Ok, here's a pic comparing three days of skimmate of the ps160 to one day of skimmate from my via aqua sk388. The via aqua is on the left. These are 24 oz glasses. The second pic is my sk388 pulling 35scfl's. Remember, this is a 10.5" diameter skimmer. Milked from top to bottom.

Hey guys, forgot to subscribe to the thread. I called Aquatraders for instructions/parts list and they said they would email them to me. That is after waiting one week from my first email. If I dont get anything today or tomorrow from them, I'm going to take a bunch of pictures for your guys expert knowledge, thanks.

Hey Guys here are the pictures of the parts im working with.

and the skimmer main body

My problem is that none of the attachments fit into the plastic tube attached to the main body.

I have figured out how to setup the skimmer as in sump, but I have to use as HOB. Any help would be great thanks

Reeferman, i checked out my parts for my ps160. I don't have a piece that connects the pump to the hang on style either. I do think i know what the piece of tubing is for though. You need to cut a small piece of it and connect it to your plastic hang on tube, then attach it to your pump with a bulkhead hosefitting on it. Then your set. The one thing i would pry do is get a couple plastic hose clamps. Then you'll be good. Hope that helps. It basically connects like the remora pro did.

Thanks for checking on that for me. I tried to slide the extra tube they supplied over the other tube, and it will not fit. I guess I will go buy a tube that fits, or maybe glue one of the attachments to the tube.

Reefer, put the tube in the microwave for a very short time, then slide it on, works very easy, but don't overdo it, just get it warm to fairly hot, it'll expand a bit, then go back to normal..........young grasshopper ; )

The protein skimmer seems to be built well, but there is a total lack of support for the product. So buy it if you are not worried about customer support.

I've been running the PS160 stock for 2 months now and its working great, even put it up to my local fish stores Sea Clowns modded all to heck, guess what product they are now selling at 1/2 the price hehe.
Here's my question though, I've been running a Vortex Diatom filter pretty much 24/7 lately to try to get rid of a algae bloom (stupid green water) and since starting the Diatom my skimmer doesn't produce anything, is the Vortex filtering everything out so the skimmer is pulling nothing? I kinda figure thats whats going on but wanted to check in with the experts just to make sure.

Yea, there is definately no customer support there.

Jefferbooz, you skimmer should still be working, but my guess is that the diatom filter you added is keeping it from working, any time you add a new piece of equipment your skimmer will not work for a couple days. Kind of like if you add a new pump, it'll have a small break in period again.
