I've decided to keep the tank after all. I also purchased a new frag and finally a new fish.

Nothing special... but we'll see how these do before I toss in a $400 frag

Very glad to hear this!

Nice additions. I'll be interested in seeing how the acans do. I had bad luck with them when my tanks was a bit younger. I haven't yet tried again.

These were sold as "ultra acans". Only paid $60 for them but I have seen better for that price. Picked these up at my local LFS. I rarely bother to look at the coral there and I kept seeing these guys but couldn't get a good look because they were still in the bag temp acclimating and it was fogged up so my curiousity got the best of me and I asked. Guy pulled the bag out and I saw them. They're just your typical acans. I figured why not since I've been wanting some and most of the ones I've looked at around $300 - $400 for the same size frag. So I thought I'd see how these do in my tank. I've had them about 2 weeks and had no issues with them yet. I've had a scoly in the tank since early March that is doing quite well and some micros I got the same day. The only thing in my tank not doing so well is the favia. I think all the water changes from dealing with cyano ****ed it off. I wouldn't thought the chalice or scoly would've been the first to cuss me out for it. Granted my daylights are only on for 3hrs and I run 1 Blue+ and an actinic for 3hrs I'm not too worried about the acans as they've shown no signs of disliking their placement. As long as the blenny behaves and doesn't start dreaming up recipes for my corals I think things with him will be ok as well.

Turns out the blenny was the culprit so I've moved him to the sump for now.

There's no hole drilled in this cap because I bought it to paint/dip in plasti-dip, decided to just order a black one online. Anyway I used a 2 1/4" hole saw to slowly drill the plastic on the lid so I could still use it with the taller standpipe.

The reverse durso in the sump while it running. I'm thinking about boxing it in or something to help with the bubbles.

Here's a better pic of the reverse durso with the sump drained.

I'm still looking for some way to attach an elbow on my skimmer to minimize the splashing. Some reason I can't find PVC parts to fit it. I'm guessing the gate valve is metric. So needless to say that didn't get done this weekend.
also where did you get the cover for your overflow? i have the rimless 60g frag from deep blue and the overflow splashes my ati fixture 10" away....its crazy how much it splashes.....i love the rimless look, your tanks is looking sweet.....glad to see that you decided to keep it

The tubing from the dosing pumps is held in place by an acrylic holder I picked up at BRS. I have it attached to the last baffle on the return side of the sump. I had it mounted on the back of the sump directly below the doser pumps out of the way but was getting precip so I moved it to the front side where there is better flow. The overflow cover comes with the tank.

will the holder keep the tubes away from the glass....i just have my tubes taped and i notice after a week or so the glass has white flakes from where the alk/cal splash up on the glass....also that overflow cover is sweet, mine is a corner overflow so im hoping when i call them monday they sell one that fits......it splashes so much i put a towel over it....the tank has only been up 2-3 months and the wall paint behind the overflow is bubbling and the floor always has a glaze of wet salt....i havnt told the wife about the paint, shes going to flip

At some point. I still don't feel the tank is ready for SPS. For one I've been thinking about upping the flow. Thinking about adding an mp40 or two. I'm probably going to start with adding 1 mp40 to replace one of the mp10s and see how things look and go from there, but I'm going to let the tank mature a little more before I start tossing sticks in it.

I like those dimensions. I might have to get one when I move to a place with more room.

You might be able to fabricate a cover for that overflow with some acrylic.
Just cut a piece of cardboard to shape of the overflow box for a template.
Use the template to cut the cover out. Then cut some pieces to keep the cover in place that fit down into the overflow box. Drill a finger hole to lift it off and done once its glued together with some acrylic welding epoxy. I don't think I'd use clear to help avoid algae though.

So I came home from work today and my skimmer making a lot of racket. So I shut it down, disconnect the pump and investigate and find my blenny. Poor little guy got sucked into the pump.

Spose we'll call that lesson learned. No more fish in the sump. I'll just get a heater for the 10 gal and move them when they're naughty.

Spose I'll go ahead and do a water change just to be on the safe side. Good thing I went ahead and made some water yesterday and mixed it up. Still feel bad for the blenny though. He was a good fish other than picking at my coral frags. Nice personality... I should've went ahead and moved him.

^^ I hate it when that happens I have lost at least 4 fish to them getting in the sump and sucked up by the skimmer.

It certainly didn't help the cyano situation either. Thought I had it gone... hadn't seen it for 2 days. Thought I had finally gotten it beaten into submission.

Checked the tank when I got home yesterday - not a trace of cyano any where. I did see a tiny bit show up Sunday when looking the tank over after finding the blenny. I guess the 5 gal water change and skimmer did the trick. The little bit I did see I scrubbed off Sunday with a brush. So maybe I've finally beaten this stuff. I'll give things until Friday to say for sure.

Looks like I finally got rid of the cyano. So to celebrate I picked up 3 chalice frags and a rainbow acan boweri. Should be getting them next weekend. I'll get some pics once they're in the tank and established.

Still considering a controller but don't know

I've been working on this tank since July when I made the initial purchase. So far I've gotten the sump built, the skimmer, light fixture, back glass painted, light bars painted and mounted and the fixture hung, I've been working on the plumbing slowly and will be receiving the return pump this weekend so I can get the tank wet and see what needs to be done to make sure things are quiet and check for any leaks.

Pic is a little old... before I started on the plumbing. Will update with more pics later once that is complete and tested.

I really love this clean look. Do you think you're ever going to put a fuge in that cabinet?
