Thank you. I downloaded Bonjour and unplugged the wifi usb and now connected via ethernet only. I got a different screen, so I'm getting somewhere now.

Have to play some more tomorrow, going to bed now

Thanks again!

Well bonjour is a networking protocol developed by apple. Its basically meant to take the tech out of networking to make it easy for people to connect additional peripherals with little or no knowledge of networking.

I'm guessing that these things some how phone home internally and that's what's creating the issues. It makes sense, otherwise you end up with a web GUI that needs to be updated every time a firmware update is sent out. I've seen several home control peripherals that work that way, thermostats, etc. It works well and allows the developer to make changes on their end without issuing new firmware every other day.

Are the LED fixtures on or off? How close is your Director to the lights? Vegas or Hydras?

The Vega is off at the moment, I turned it off by click the red button until they were off so an not to annoy my GF.

The director is in the tank stand, so its probably within four feet or less.

Try moving it out from under your tank. Maybe the water in your tank is decreasing the signal to much. Might also try connecting it directly to your router as I have had some issues resolved when I stopped using the WiFi dongle.

I'm not mad, but I don't feel they have all their ducks in a row. They should have at least setup a special forum for people involved in the beta program. When I've worked with Adobe in the past, they have a forum where you interact with the programmers directly.
Sounds like you are on an even keel DJ, although I hardly think comparing an LED manufacture for the reef industry to Adobe is fair... I trust they will make it right with some time. If you arent satisfied for now just hang tight and wait for them to work through what they have already learned.

I agree it would be nice to work no problems out of the box, but if was going to happen I would have expected them to skip beta altogether, so I fully expected to not have it be flawless.

I did have a different experience though as I was able to get the Director on my wifi network, access it, make changes, connect to the lights etc. I havent spent the time to make a program, but they are operating on the director right now on manual intensities. I did most of it via the local network though.

Well, now I made it to this point after putting the director right next to the Vega. Funny thing is, it still shows no signal. Also, when I click save, and refresh the page, the discovered unit disappears, and the only way to get it back is to go back to the Vega and press the button again.

Well I wish mine said that. Every time I refresh the device disappears. And right now, the Director is literally sitting on top of the Vega.

On a side note, when I updated the firmware on my wireless controller this morning it also did an update to the Vega itself. Any idea what version you might be running? I'm wondering if it has any effect on the director?

Ive got 2.29, at least thats what is on my controller so it should be on the fixtures. Im not sure if the director put any firmware on them or not, it didnt indicate it did but who knows.

when you double click the module on the director interface does the module itself flash at all? It should blink so you know where to put it on the grid. as you could see I have 5 modules on my tank, so it allowed me to put them in the right spots. Some times it would keep blinking and Id have to double click it and hit the X to close the pop up again to get it to stop.

Do you only have one module, or are you just testing things with the 1?

I only have one vega and no nothing blinks at all. I moved the Director about 10 feet away to an ethernet connection and now I get nothing, I'm back to a blank screen. The light on the Director is green, and the IP address does show up on my router.

For what its worth DJ, here is what mine looks like while running in manual. I have the intensities just how they were with my controller. Ill probably just manually shut them off and turn them on in the morning until we see what happens with AI.

Yeah, I guess I just started off with a frustrating morning. My vega didn't come on at the scheduled time, and when I looked at the controller my entire light program was gone. Minutes later my jawfish leaped into the back sump area of my solana and because I had to go to work I had to leave it there all day. Now the jawfish doesn't seem quite the same. I was hoping that the director would be something fun to come home to, but that didn't turn out either. Hopefully tomorrow will bring new luck!

That is correct, on the BETA signup, i remember reading that the unit needed to be connected to the internet in order to receive updates automatically. has anyone even read the manual?

my.aquaillumination.com seems to be up and down, they must be working hard. I see a new feedback tab that lets us enter bugs that wasn't there yesterday. I am not sure how they are pushing updates, I don't see a SW version.

I am not John Appleseed any longer as well, lol

yeah, they have a central database for a lot of this. I've been working with them today and learning a fair amount. First off, if you upgraded a sol to a vega you won't have much luck until late today or early tomorrow when they push a new upgrade out. Not sure if its something we'll have to install of if they can push it directly.

They have been very responsive today via support. Giving these guys a lot more credit today.

what i would like to see and will submit to feedback is a way to lower the night intensity. Currently when my Hydras are on night mode or lunar cycle, all lights are set to 0 except for DB which is at 1, however i still have 4 Blue LEDs on. I would like to either go into the negative (-) increments or be able to have only two leds on.

This maybe why I'm having an issue. I upgraded from a Sol to a Vega. I can get the light to discover but won't stay saved. also there are no LEDs showing on light when double click it. just has 4 empty pods that show up

There is a suggestions section on the feedback tab, I think they will listen to any good ideas at this point.

Here is my full conversation with them...since you're an upgrader like myself this is relevant to you.

AI Support, Jul 30 16:08 (CDT):
Dustin,

We are working on resolving this issue for you; it is isolated to Sol to Vega upgrades.

It has nothing to do with the 'guts' of the module.

An update may be released today, but it will likely be tomorrow before your Director is updated. We will advise once this has happened.

Thanks,
AI Engineering

Aquaillumination Support Team, Jul 30 12:42 (CDT):
The Vega upgrade kit uses a the existing Sol fan which is ran at different speeds than the Vega itself. With this comes slightly different programming between the 2 units.

Justin

Dustin, Jul 30 12:38 (CDT):
At I ask what is different about the upgrade versus a newly purchased Vega?
I was under the impression the guts were identical.

Thank you for your prompt responses.

We're looking into this. I appears to be specific to Sol to Vega upgrades.

Will respond shortly.

Dustin, Jul 30 12:23 (CDT):
I still get the same results.

The director discovers the light just fine. I add it to the layout, click save, and when I double click on the Vega, I get the following:

http://grab.by/oVa4

AI Support, Jul 30 12:16 (CDT):
Dustin,

We have deleted the database on your Director to work through this issue.

You will need to need to reset the light, so it is undiscovered. (Hold red button for around 7 seconds until it flashes)

When you bring the Director page up again, do not add another tank using the + button. Simply go to the layout tab, click Discover and wait for the module to show.

Once this is done, drag it to the a grid location on the layout, and click Save.

At this point, you should be able to double click on the Vega and see the color layout. If not, we will continue to diagnose the issue.

Thanks,
AI Engineering

Dustin, Jul 29 22:40 (CDT):
Well, since this is beta I might as well continue. I was finally able to get this far, and please read everything following:

Next step, I'll move the the Vega into the layout and double click the icon (notice the signal. Right now the director is literally sitting on top of the Vega):

Next, I'll click the X, Save and refresh the browser, and this is what comes next:

Additional notes: I cannot change the name of the tank, it doesn't give me the option to type anything. I can erase the name of what is there, but not type anything new.

When I click on my profile, it only says John Appleseed regardless of what name is in the profile.

One last note, I've also tried connecting directly via the IP address of the director, as well as through http://director-xxxxxxxx.local and I get the same screen for both.

Dustin, Jul 29 18:07 (CDT):
Well I was able to get it connected to my wireless, as well as to my.aquaillumination.com, but then I just get a black screen. See the screen shot.

Hello Dustin,

Thank you for the information and sorry to hear of the troubles. What can we help you with? We just started the shipping of these on Friday and you are of the first to receive so we don't have an FAQ section for this posted as of yet. However, we are here to answer questions you may have of course. Please advise, thank you.

Kind Regards,

AI Support

Dustin, Jul 29 15:53 (CDT):
So I received my director today and I'm not having much luck. When will you guys start answering questions? If this is beta I feel like there should be an open topic for people with questions.
