Very interesting, I was considering a couple Jebao RW-15's for the 125gal I'm putting together, but this has me second guessing it. I love that it's reversible, which allows for simulating tides, but I have some concerns about the feature.
1) It seems like it wouldn't push nearly as much water reversed looking at how the fins are arranged. 2) If I had it horizontally across the top and it reversed, would that then point it straight down at the sand bed and cause a sand storm? |

I have no interest in purchasing, but if I did, I would mount one horizontally and vertically in a bare bottom system. Reversing the flow every hour.
The horizontal pump would control clockwise and counter-clockwise flow and the vertical pump would bounce the flow off the front and side panels.

Anyway, I am interested in seeing how these Riptides work out. Not just from a flow standpoint but also from a reliability, controllability and quality standpoint. |

I'm so excited, I won a certificate for one in a raffle yesterday! Can't wait for them to release these suckers. They look like they were built for my 210 pennisula.

Well, since this is public now, here is the Gyre spanking a pair of MP40 in my tank
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GID4pFUNJts The two MP40wES are synced in Reef Crest mode at 60% power, the Gyre is running in constant mode at 20% power (which is 9.5 watts from the wall!), and neither were run at the same time (so only the MP40s or only the Gyre).

Great video! Thanks for sharing. I'm very seriously considering putting one of these into my 90 gallon. I wonder how it would interact with a wave box, anyone try?

Man, the coral snow test really showed some crazy undertow with this pump. Reminded me of Scorpion from Mortal Kombat. "Get over here!"

I wouldn't bother with any other flow devices in the tank, the goal with the gyre is mass water flow

There are more videos shared among the beta testers of the same 50w unit in much larger tanks than yours or mine. These things are incredible.

Your tank is much taller than mine so yours should be ok, though if it is powder sand then it will blow a bit until it resettles. My sand is 1.2-2.0mm, but for some reason my MP40s were always blowing it around. So far so good with the Gyre.

Ben, do you see much different flow patterns when mounting the pump vertically (if you haven't tried, could you)? I'm envisioning placing one of these vertically on a rear wall and creating flow that traverses around the tank.
