You really need to call Steve as he will hook yu up.

Yes he will withhold portions of the packages and lower costs to compensate. I got a package where I subbed out the sump, pump, and skimmer for Kessils. He will work with what you need and price accordingly.

If you get rid of the return pump though he will likely only send the plumbing for inside the overflow. You will need to source plumbing for in the stand and I would go that route. The plumbing in the stand is easily done with PVC and some glue though if you want to go flexible order a spool of masterflex from marinedepot and then all you do is connect to barbs.

Sump does not come with a filter sock but plenty of holders on the market from all the big sites online. Something like this: http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/vertex...r-4-socks.html

Most using the SC sump need to raise the skimmer slightly with pvc, egg crate, or such. I can't speak to the ice cap skimmer but I will note that many on here rave about the SC skimmer. I personally use a life reef.

Might as well just take the stock return for a spare or mixing salt.

I hear I can talk to Steve and basically customize my order. What I'd like to do is get the tank, sump, and add the plywood stand but have him hold back the skimmer and return as I don't find a need if I'm going to be replacing them anyways. Has anyone done this and is it even worth the time to haggle?

I'm curious about and can't seem to find my info on is what kind of plumbing below the tank does the system come with? Is it all clear tubing in the sump area or is that just the return?

I take it the sump does not come with a filter sock? What one am I'm looking for?

One last thing, how much water is in the sump and what is the water height so I can further research what skimmer to go for. So far I'm leaning towards the icecap k2-50 because of its minimal footprint and also has some pretty good reviews. Though I'm weary that it's not enough for this system.

Thanks in advance!!!

I run the k2-50 on my seahorse tank. It's not enough for the tank your looking at. It's really not even enough for my 30g seahorse tank. The stock skimmer that comes with the SCA systems gets a bad rap but I'm still running it on my 90 and it does a good job. I raised it a few inches in the sump and it pulls out plenty of ski age.

Sounds to me like just take the entire system upgrade the stand to plywood and call it a day. I'm sceptical of the skimmer as it really has mixed reviews, but I guess I could try it out. For $95 if I like it then I'm winning and if I don't I can get something better down the road and keep it as a cheaper spare. Same goes for the return pump. What's the biggest issue with the return? Seems like it almost too much for the tank. If I added a reactor or two off the return line would it help bring the flow to the display down a bit? I see some people are running reactors off separate pumps and I'm confused as to why they wouldn't tap into the return line???

The return pump are pretty weak and louder than they need to be. I switched to a jebao DC pump

Yeah I don't think it's possible to have a plug n play system that appeases everyone, we all end up tinkering and swapping something to fit our individual needs in some way shape or form eventually, but they do provide something decent straight out of the box, and bottom line for me is the actual tank is a quality build and a great deal for the price, especially for a low iron glass tank.

On my 80 gallon the predrilled holes in the overflow fit 1/2" loc-line. Has anyone tried to modify the holes to accommodate 3/4" loc-line? If you have what worked for you? Thx

On Steve's bigger tanks, 150+, what size return holes are drilled? I don't recall what size hole for what size bulkhead at the moment. 1" bulkhead size?

Thanks

Hi All,

So i had SCA build this cabinet for me. And for some reason, i don't love the way it came out reason being that i has some imperfections, for example, the gap at the top of the door and the stain job is not perfect, and since this will be placed in my living room im looking at it with a critical eye, just wanted to get you guys opinion on this cabinet.

Thank You!

Agree, I don't like the way that looks. For what SCA asks for a cabinet, it's a no brainer to build your own.

Thanks, so im not crazy. And never mind this is their second attempt on this cabinet the first one was even worse i declined the excuse was that they had the wrong guy in the shop build it.
Anyway the reason why i wanted this cabinet in the first place was because i have seen what SCA has built in the past and it looked very nice. I think they night have changed where they build the cabinets.

And you have adjusted the height 9f the door with the hinges right? There is some play there but not sure enough for that gap...

The staining on the visible part of the stand look fine to me though. Most dont worry abput stain on areas to be covered

I hear ye. Regarding the stain, these are the photos they sent me to approve, and seeing the ones they did in the past they all the tips were stained that why it worries me a bit too.

I would ask that the door was actually hung on the hinges then. It looks like packing on the top which means they might have sent while staining and wothout the door hung. Ask for additional pics to confirm staining is uniform and door doesnt have gap

No, I'll post a few pics tomorrow tough.

My builds go so slow people wouldn't tune in. I'm high end acro guy, but I wait a good 8-9 months before I even think about them going in.

I agree the stain on the front door has wayyyy too dark of a spot and the door gap is hardly exceptable. Is the gap something you think you can adjust on your own? That would be my go to route as I'd hate to ship back and forth for a third time. And for the dark spot... maybe try sanding down and staining yourself as well. Sounds like a PITA but better than sending it all back for that too?!?!?!

my stand is identical. Had the same gap in my door and imperfections in the stain.

I refinished my stand so I cannot help with the stain. But for the door gap. I went to Lowes and bought 1/2" foam door sealer, comes in a roll, you peel the tape of the back and stick it on. I put that around the perimeter in side the stand/door to block light. Works great!

I haveto say it's actually a big turn off for me after hearing such good things about SCA that they can't make a decent stand for the amount of money I'm paying. I think the MDF ones might even look better.

Let's see some more stands. I"m not interested in seeing one close up. I was interested in doing the tank and stand and not having to build my own stand this time . . .
