Finally someone else who does it! I've been running 100% (minus reds n greens at 40 due to algae on sand) and I've seen great growth and coloring! Dunno why so many dim too

Fantastic growth and color!!

How big is that tank how many vega units do you have. Oh how I hope to get corals that nice. However I am feeling defeated.

Well just check my par measurements and well to say the least they aren't very good. We are talking 100-150 par just about everywhere. Don't get me wrong I am getting very nice spread but low numbers. Any thoughts on this. Do I need to add one more vega. Any help would be great. On a side note I just held an evo up with them and got a 50/75 par jump.
That's because the par on Vega's just isn't very good - especially for deep tanks.

Earlier this year I decided to go the cheap route and upgrade my Sol Blue's to Vegas- a decision I've been regretting ever since. Between massive driver headaches (twice, on two separate upgrades, whole pucks stopped working) lack of follow up support from customer service (they sure are nice though) and poor performance I really wish I had just swallowed the bullet and purchased two Radion pro's. Much better lights for a myriad of reasons.

I actually also have a separate tank with a reefbreeder photon over it, and that's a better light as well, and half the price. AI seems more focused on fast new product releases then supporting the ones they've already built. There are just too many lighting options on there, anyone thinking about these should really do some research before committing to them.

Can't believe AI released the Hydra 52 not even a year after the finally hit the market. Kind of BS for Vega owners who thought they were buying AI's flagship product. They should offer Vega owners a conversion kit to run the Hydra 52 pucks.

I know AI recommends 24"X24" max coverage, any thoughts about a single vega on a 40g breeder. If it was raised maybe 10-12 inches?

hmm

That seems to be common practice lastely everyone puts out A new flagship type of led unit then before you know it bamm a new one comes out bigger better with wireless controllers or upgraded lens lol never ends . I wanted to get the Radions when gen 1 came out then gen 2 then luckily i waited bamm price drop. And waiting for the other shoe to fall on the Radion Pro with what i hear is A new controller..soo many options..

I'm on board for advancing the technology on these fixtures, but try and focus on one or two lights. In last 2-3 years AI has released a Nano, Sol, Vega, Hydra and now Hydra 52. Not only is this confusing from a customer standpoint, it must be difficult for retailers to decide which lights to stock and what color. IMO, it seems AI is just trying to one up the competition instead of focusing on developing a great product.

The optics will give you a bit more spread raising the light that high but you will not be happy with the limited par and shadows on the edges of your tank. Even at the recommended 6 ATWL, the Vega lacks par on or near the sand bed directly below the light. Two for sure if you want to keep SPS.

Nice Bull Terrier btw! I had my girl for 11yrs until she passed this summer. But I see a Mini BT in my future very soon.

That's kinda my gut feeling, especially with how my aquascape is (2 islands)

Sorry to hear about your bully. They are truly a unique breed. They have a retarded swagger about them that is hilarious. Ours is loved dearly/unconditionally.

Well heard back from ai. Although their response was speedy I don't feel satisfied. The 50 degree optics will not work for us vega owners. There maybe the development of lenses but they wouldn't commit. I let them know my frustration of lack of par and they only suggested buying another unit. I for one do not think 79 par on sandbed is acceptable. Hopefully the addition of my t5 will boost profits for another company.

How tall is your tank and how high off the surface are your lights?

Would like to know for my own Vegas, since I don't have a PAR meter.

Thanks Andrew.

I have a 30 inch deep tank. My lights are 4-5 inches off the water depending on wave height. I would supplement with t5 however I am way to frustrate to recommend anything else at this point. If you have another questions feel free to ask though. Have you already purchased these lights.
