Paul, can you explain the acronym ASW?

It's been driving me nuts trying to figure it out

ASW is artificial sea water, NSW is natural seawater.
ASW is "Instant Ocean", Reef Crystals", etc

NSW is when you see a guy that looks like me wadeing out here with a bucket to collect water.

To update those 5 bumblebee gobies, they are all going great and now for some reason they spread out all over the tank. Ever since I have had them they hid around the right side of the tank toward the back. Now they swim around like "regular" fish.
They still stay a few inches apart from each other though.
One of my larger gobies spawned the other day so they had a feast. They battle their way around the larger fish to get to worms and they still get new born brine every day as all the fish do. I think I can say that these gobies can acclimate to full salt and can live in it indefinately. They are very colorful and striking, peaceful toward other fish, easy to feed, (as long as you give them meaty foods) and real cheap. What else can you ask for?

Thanks Sugar, these things seem very healthy and hard to kill.
I really am glad I decided to try them.
Now if I could get them to spawn, that would be great. I think, anyone could keep them alive

Here you go luther:

http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...978&pcatid=978

I wouldn't imagine they would be big diggers, I don't think they have the mouth for it. Plus, maxing out at 1.5" means they wouldn't make a huge mess if they did.

"Even though they live in the brackish water, the addition of freshwater will induce spawning. The female will lay the eggs in the substrate beneath a root or rock where the male will fertilize them. After fertilization, the male will guard the eggs for approximately four days until the fry become waterborne. "

How do you explain fish born from fish that were born in ASW? Not exactly products of NSW. Maybe the parents were generations ago were...

LordHelmit, you were not there? My feelings are dented. Now I have to go back and say the entire speal over again.

The presentation went well I am told. We had a great time.

The gobies do not dig, they look entirely too lazy

Capn the presentation went well, here is the write up I received.
The Northern Valley Reefers are very nice, friendly people and made us feel at home. We had a very nice time.
We are going to Marco Island in a few days, I hope to get some diving in but I am not sure a dive shop is near where we will be staying which is with friends in a beach house.

Did you have to acclimate the Gobies to true salt water. I don't mean like regular acclimation. I mean since they are brackish.

For WK to read it you would have to write it larger and do it in all capital letters.

Maybe he can give a talk on keeping a DSB for a week or two

I don't know, maybe 8 months. I would have to search back through this thread to see when I first posted them

Capn, is that when I got them? 2/16/09 07:51 AM. That seems early for a LFS to open.

Lordhelmit, I don't know if it was the most important thing to do but I would have liked to meet you.

What I noticed the most about California in my two trips there is that everything is so far apart. We visited two friends there and it seemed we were driving forever.
There are pockets of civilization many miles apart with really nothing in between. We don't have that here on Long Island. or even in NY unless you go way up north.
I can't swing a dead cat without hitting 5 LFSs and 6 Home Depots

There are 6 Home Depots with in 9 miles of my house, maybe more with a couple of Lowes sprinkled in. I can't count the LFSs.

There is really no place I could drive to in an hour where there is nothing. Don't get me wrong, I don't like crowds and here, everything is crowded. We will go to my daughter's for breakfast in a little while, she lives about 10 miles from us and it can take an hour or more to get there especially on Mother's day.

We do like California, north and south for different reasons. And we had a great time.

By the way, Happy Mother's Day
