I'm looking forward to the Cerebra as a new toy to play with. Couldn't resist at $375. I understand the software is going to change and I get to be a part of the input that changes it. The hardware won't change. My Apex Classic was awesome - everything is perfect, but I didn't like the plastic look and feel of the new Apex (even though the new Apex has a lot of great enhancements that everyone can be excited about).

it looks like this controller is causing quite a stir with apex owners. are they worried that they will no longer have the best thing out there? im beginning to think that might be the case. it seems people are almost upset that this thing will soon be available.
I doubt it will be worth replacing my apex with a vertex but for a new setup, why not? better to have options and competition which apex has not had much of. |

In all honesty Vertex might not be all that interested in the US market.
I use to think the US market for SW aquarium equipment was large, then I got a breakdown of sales in the EU and Japan and realized we are not that big in the market. I guess I should have known, look how much aquarium equipment comes out of Germany and Italy. There had to be a reason!

If you look at their new all-in-one sump systems - all of the connections are metric. If you buy one in the U.S. they include these adapters (that look like crap) to make the metric to U.S. (Imperial) conversions. |

$375 does not get you a package not even with Apex.

The Apex Jr doesn't compare to the Apex or Vertex Cerebra. A "package" deal would be the new Apex that comes with everything for $800. The Cerebra is obviously competing with the new Apex and offering their controller without extra probes for $375.

NOBODY here knows much about what is happening next, and the assumptions is what drives me crazy, people are making a system up in their heads at this point. What Im criticizing is the approach of a (hopefully) planned 4 year launch that is so far terrible. Brs came out announcing selling it and now backed out showing uncertainty about its current version status. People have bought it, now what? |

I keep saying if it should be compared to any controller feature or price wise it should probably be the DA Archon which is also an open source platform. Or maybe even the reef angel or aquatronics. They want simplicity and cost effectiveness. . I want that for my nano.
Apex vs Profilux now there's something to that. They are much more about having a more advanced controller. I want this for my bigger tank.

Moreover, Apex is much more mature. They offer the WAV, DOS, LDM and will soon add the FMM, COR and optical sensors. But it seems like a welcome change in the market - will keep an eye on it to see how it pans out. Last edited by Raul-7; 06/28/2016 at 08:35 AM. |

Well I guess that $395 price Tag is having a domino effect on the controller market.
I noticed that Aquatronica has lowered their price to $695 for the gold package with powerbar/ORP/pH/Salinity/2x Float and Temp probe. I would imagine to add those extras to the Vertex would make it cost about the same. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=2586973 Rob

I already preorder and bought all the power bar and mindsets needed to run both aquarium. Can't wait to move on from the apex. The coding was refined enough. Wish the alerts could give me more details than this when on/off

The pump looks good, but is that box its controller? That is huge. At first I thought that was the pump next to the cerebra...but read "stratus" on it. |

Did anyone buy the special and then also add in another "power bar", assorted probes, float switches, etc.. and come to the conclusion you are only saving 50 bucks or something compared to an Apex with the same abilities/specs?
I need to sit down and do the math but I am wondering if anyone else already did. I suppose my aquacontroller junior is due for an upgrade. ;-) |
