Looks like a nice unit. Curious how large the primary chamber is? I think PacSun owes a note of thanks to the various inventive hobbyists that have, over the last 15 years, made a previously unreliable and twitchy piece of equipment solid and reliable ..... and THE best solution to mineral/trace replenishment.
Will also be interesting to see if the stepper peri pump holds up to continuous use in the same way that the masterflex pumps have. Only time will tell I suppose.

It is working like a charm, did not have to tweak at all and alkalinity sits stable around 9,2ºdkH. My corals are really happy with this upgrade. I think that output pH is related to the pump's flow rate and the "throttle" attained with the PVC valve. |

Stepper pump should have lifetime not shorter than motors/rollers used in master flex pumps - we have one pump working in our service continuously since march last year on full duty / maximum flow. Still without any issue / problems. |

I learned a critical step in setting up my Calcfeeder which I'm helping lionfish300 out with now. This may be common knowledge for setting up any calcium reactor, but it's my first. There can be no air in the reactor or in the co2 chamber when starting up the unit. All air must be flushed by filling all chambers with water. Then when you start up the controller, have the co2 turned up enough to fill the co2 chamber quickly enough or the controller will throw an error. The co2 must have filled the chamber down to the sensor or you will get an error.
If you have any air in the chambers then the PH will not get low enough to break down the media. My alkalinity had progressively dropped indicating an issue. I had increased my output to 4L per hour and alk kept dropping so I knew something was wrong.I tested the PH of the effluent coming out of the Reactor chamber (before degassing chamber) and found it was at 8.06, very close to my aquarium's PH. This is obviously too high to break down the media and showed I didn't have enough co2 in the chamber. Once I flushed all air out of the reactor the co2 went to work. I am using Two Little Fishies Reborn media and can confirm that the reactor does break this media down. I decreased my output to 1L per hour and my aquarium alk dkh increased from about 6 to 7.5 in just over a day. I have yet to test the PH of effluent out of the reactor chamber but will post it when I do.

Hi John
Thank you for that update. Yes, it's very important to empty both chambers from the air before reactor will be started - on other way carbon dioxide will mix with air and will not drop down pH to requested levels. Regards Przemek |

ok finally getting to chime in on this thread. My reactor came in a little over 3 weeks ago. Unfortunately it came in broken. The pump was attached to the reactor in shipping and really should have been in a box inside itself in the box of the reactor. It was obvious that it was handled rough by FedX. the box was bubble wrap outside the box and packed will inside as well. With lots of communication the parts were mailed to me to fix the reactor. The first time it was the wrong parts the second time I got everything I needed to glue my reactor back together. It was damaged from the union of the pump and the elbow where the john guest fitting attaches to the body was in pieces.
I was told to use crazy glue to glue the new elbow to the body and sand off the remaining glue to prior to gluing this back together. My concern is that crazy glue may work short term but not long term. I am asking all would the #4 or #16 acrylic glue be better for this? I know one of them is liquid glue while the other is gel. I am thinking the gel glue may hold up better. I am also wondering if one would use PVC primer to clean the old glue off instead of sanding it off. I can not have this leak so I am very concerned that this is done right. I would like to get a few opinions on best options as it appears that Pacsun does not really want to replace the hole unit and thinks it can be fixed. I still do not know if more seams are damaged until I put water in it so I am hoping this is the only spot that was damaged.

I've successfully used #16 for a similar repair. It worked and is water tight, but it ain't pretty. If I had my druthers, I'd want it perfect. If it's going to break, I want to be the one to do it! On the other hand, if it's where you can't see it and you want to get it up and running as soon as possible ....

Dear Richard,
I really regret about that whats happened (as I informed in mails) but please let me explain here how it's looking from our side and what we actually did in that case. After shipping to you parcel our office informed you about needed parcel inspection when it arrive(without difference how it's looking from outside - damaged or not). Our shipping division every time try to pack products as best as it's possible - similar reactors were sent to many Customers worldwide, also Customers posing in this thread can confirm how they were packed. You reactor was delivered to you with damages like on photos(got from you): after cleaning pipes you sent us photo how its looking finally: I see that you think that this kind of damage was done by pump attached to reactor. It's not possible, due two reasons - firstly, how that damage looks(it's like a hit from elbow side), secondly - because pump is tightened to reactor stand and simply can't move to this elbow side(and break it). We never refused replacing unit - As it was confirmed by several Customers on RC - every time when we got this things and we were able start procedure against Fede - we were replacing products without any questions for Customer on their request. Since first emails we tried to get from you claim/damage report from Fedex and additional photos required by Fedex(we don't have that reactor here so we can only wait for that photos from you) - because as it stay on their website also - for starting any claim we need to have damage protocol (they are preparing it after getting information from Customer about damage). When we have information thats already confirmed by Fedex - we start claim procedure against Fedex but they still say that still missed are photos from external package and internal protections. http://www.fedex.com/ma/shippingguide/terms/ Fragment of their terms/regulations: 21.1 Claims for Damage or Delay All claims must be notified in writing to FedEx within 21 calendar days after delivery of the Shipment, failing which no action for damages may be brought against FedEx. Receipt of the Shipment by the Recipient without written notice of damage on the delivery receipt is prima facie evidence that the Shipment was delivered in good condition. As a condition for FedEx considering any claim for damage the Recipient must make the contents, original shipping cartons and packaging available for inspection by FedEx. FedEx reserves the right to inspect damaged Shipments on the customer's premises as well as the right to retrieve the damaged Package for inspection at a FedEx facility. All of the original shipping cartons, packing and contents must be made available for inspection by FedEx and retained until the claim is concluded. Of course - whole procedure was started by our company and now we are waiting for they reply. They tried to to refuse claim because too much time was since delivery and additionally - they didnt get information about on delivery receipt about any damages.. They refused picking it on their cost and ship to us because there is no active claim in system due lack in documentation(like photos which we don't get - like from external package etc..) Now, all expenses are our own expenses covered from our wallet. We shipped to you spare elbow with union fitting(first one was by our shipping division sent by mistake - it was to another model) so now only that elbow need to be glued to this transparent pipe. It's looking like it everything what will be needed. I'm very sorry but we can't agree for proposal 15% additional refund for that elbow damage - you already received that unit with special 21% discount and it was very good deal on that rector.. We have solution for you, please check mail from our service - hope that it will satisfy you and will let us fix that issue in best possible situation. Of course, from our side I can promise that if there will be any other support needed by our side we will do our best to help you starting that reactor and any other(if there will be) discovered problems will be supported/fixed by our technical support. Thank you for your cooperation - and again - I really sorry thats happened to you. Please let us solve that on "win-win" conditions. Hello Greg,
O course we not expect from Customer that will start anything - everything what can be will be done by us! But as you can read on FedeX terms (and which about we inform Customers immediately after information about any damage) - we need to get from Customers all this things required by Fedex - like detailed photos. Without that we can't start, it's outside of our control - and we can't change that... Only one thing which we need from Customer after shipment is checking parcel during delivery or immediately after that. Thats required by Fedex in Poland(but for sure also in USA) and without that we can't do anything. If it wouldn't be required by them - we never would ask Customers about that - but it's impossible for us to do damage photos/or external package photos for them if product is delivered to Customer. You have right about premium products - and thats why we paid special insurance for all our products during shipping. If we are getting report about damage and product photos/confirmation of informing Fedex about damage - we can simply start claim agains Fedex and they are responsible for: - picking up product from Customer - deliver new product to Customer on their cost Of course, whole process is between us and Fedex and Customer don't have to take care about anything more. But only what we need(if anything will happened - because you have right - it's not Customer fault that product is damaged - but also it's not our fault - it's FedeX fault and they are responsible for that) is product checking/sending damage report to Fedex - by call, mail or during delivery - asking Fedex guy for writing damage report. We ALWAYS try to start claim against Fedex immediately(because it's our risk/money refund) but we can't do that without that photos/damage report. We always inform/remind about that our Customers(special not in mail with parcel /tracking number send to Customer after shipping out ) to be sure that it will be done by him during parcel delivery. I'm sure that you will agree that it's not something big, a specially when we talk about expensive product - which can be damaged during shipping(because it's acrylic - and easy to broke). However - we use many different kind of packing to protect it - but it's shown above - still something wrong can happen.. We not expect that Customer will wait for Fedex claim results - because sometimes it can take even three months!, but when we are getting needed info(photos/damage protocol) - we are doing it by ourself and Customer is getting new replacement asap.. Richard was out for vacation when Fedex tried to contact with him so there was delay in communication between them. Please believe me - I really would like to have it finished without any asking Customer for help - but we can't simply show damages/package photos etc if product is delivered to Customer house. I just want clarify something from Fedex, they won't and I repeat they won't wait for you to inspect the package right in front them. The Fedex driver's responsible is to deliver goods to customer only, they are not a claim agent.
I had a replacement pac sun pandora delivered to me even with their repeated warnings about inspecting the package right in front of driver. I don't know how Fedex operates in Poland, but here in the US, the driver told me to f-off. A phone call to Fedex customer service confirms the fact that all damages should be reported after the goods are delivered and no during. |

One thing I can confirm that is Pacific Sun stands by their products, and ship out replacement right away at their expense, whether its Fexdex fault or not. Their customer support is second to none, but the time it took for the package to clear the custom to get to the US is out of everyone's control.

Unfortunately yes, if we don't have all photos/damage report/confirmation to Fedex - we are not able to start claim.
It simply terms/obligations required from us and parcel recipient by Fedex(as I posted link to Fedex page) - not by us and we can't do anything with that. That's why we ask Customers for checking parcels and send to us photos/reports asap - thats only one thing which we expect from our Customers. After we are getting them - we are able to start everything without waiting for Fedex decision because even if they will refuse it firstly - we can talk with them using our lawyer and Customer even don't have to worry about that at all. Regarding all other things - I would like to keep that thread focused on technical aspects so please let our support talk directly with Richard, we work actually on solution because as I said - Fedex refused any responsibility due too long time for collecting documents/photos for them. Thank you for understanding. Przemek |

On another note I opened my reactor in front of the Fed Ex guy he wasn't happy and told me even if I did find Damage they couldn't take it back because it's an international shipment. Not sure what that means but from my experience since we do a lot of international and Domestic shipping but mostly fright. I can see how it wouldn't be able to be sent back because of customs entrance and Exit paperwork needing to be done. Fed Ex will not do the paperwork and Customs forms to send it back unlike the freight companies. So IMO like me with Royal and my Nightmare box!! Save the trouble swallow it unless the MFG is going to take care of repairs and do it on their dime or not. Again Fed Ex or UPS won't do a thing trust me we lose claims cases a lot trust me they never pay in fact I think I recovered 100 bucks from them in 9 years in business it's up to them whether or not it's packaged correctly. Time is of the essence they return the same day or the next to pick it up. This case again don't waste your time let the mfg fix it or not. |

Once the package arrived I did open it up and see the damages. you received an email immediately after I opened this up. Then you received another email once I was able to review it more. Both of these emails had pictures attached to it. You insisted that I contact FEDX as this was my responsibility. I am the received. you are the shipper. You must file the claim. I then received more emails from you and others within your office asking for pictures. to me it appears that you do not communicate within the office. As I provided everything you needed prior to you even replying back to my first email. I then even went out of my way to file a FEDX claim on my end and supplied pictures to FEDX. Next I spoke to FEDX regarding the damage issue. None of this was my responsibility. my only job at this point was to have FEDX come by and inspect the box and damages which was never done. I only chimed in on this thread asking for recommendations on how to glue it together as you never offered to replace the unit. Since you brought up all the other dirty laundry up in the thread I could say more but not needed. regardless what I paid for the unit I still received a unit that was damaged and a 5% discount on a unit from you is more of an insult of an offer then a resolution. I waited months for this unit, was very patient on your manufacturing delays. You next gave me tracking that did not exist and then I had to wait until you where back in the office after the holiday to reship it. Yes boxes were packed nicely inside and out. unfortunately it was still damaged. Getting the wrong replacement part sent to me was a mistake I understand that. not given any instruction on how to fix this or including any glue for that mater clearly shows why I posted this here. I spent a lot of money for this it should not be my responsibility to fix it. It should have been replaced no questions asked after seeing the pictures but it was not. I guess we are so hands on this hobby that it is expected that we know how to build , repair and do things on are own even with brand new products. It is quiet clear now that I should have bought something within the US and I will never by an imported aquarium product direct as this has been a disaster after waiting 2 months plus. You have no need to throw me under the bus on this in the forums as I was only seeking help on how to repair this unit the correct way as you never offered to replace anything only supply the parts to repair a brand new unit. What I paid for this has nothing to do with it. The important thing here is product support or lack of. I have spent so much money on my aquarium to set it up the right way the first time it is not even funny. Setting up a new 450 gallon tank went way over budget for me but someway or another I made it happen. I wanted to do it right the first time and not have to replace things later on if they failed or wore out to quickly. This is why I chose to use your product from the beginning and why I was willing to wait. Obviously it was the wrong choice for me. We all learn from our mistakes I will say I have learned a lot from this experience. Yes most of this could have been left off of this thread but again I only chimed in to ask how to glue this and what to use. an answer of superglue is not acceptable for me for the amount of money that I paid for this and still have to even see if it will hold water and not leak in other places. I will still not know this until it is glued and tested. Maybe now you can understand my view and others can as well.

Dear Richard,
We really aren't in opposite to you in this thread - I'm sorry if you feel thrown under the bus - it wasn't my goal.. I wanted to only explain that we are in very difficult situation with Fedex now. For example on Monday our office again tried to ask them whats going on with that case, why they still stop it.. They told us that we can't start claim because documentation is not completed - they informed us that they still wait for photos of external package(and other protections) because it's important for them. They told Marta Pieper(she contact with you in this matter) that they tried to contact with you several times(maybe when you were on vacation, we really don't know it) - and you were also informed about that photos needed..(they wrote in mail that the same request was sent to you). Because they not received them from you(they got photos only damaged part) they require them from us(!) and gave us deadline for that.. It's really hard for us to verify that - we don't know who contacted with you, which photos exactly you sent them(they don't want to send them to us!).. We even don't know if they really asked you for that photos or not.. From clearly understood reasons we can't send this photos to them...(we don't have them - we don't have damaged product). We still don't have that photos and we can't do anything - that's why Marta asked you again about that photos from external package/protections used in that parcel. We packed that very well (like all products shipped worldwide) and we need to show them it, because it's a prove that somebody hit or dropped that package in not proper handling. Please believe me - I would like to simply replace that product and completely forget about that case because all of it is not worth of that discussion But without started claim against them we can't pickup it from you - mean can, but picking cost for us is 2730PLN(it's about 700USD). Shipping new one to you - about 200USD. But as you see - it's almost 1000USD(for simply broken elbow product replace!). Because it's clearly damage during shipment(not properly done shipping service) - FEDEX should pay for that. In started claim(even without final decision from Fedex) we require from them picking product on their cost - and deliver new one to Customer also(on their cost, because product have insurance against damages during shipment) That's why it's very important for us having all completed as soon as possible - because we can completely take any responsibility/problems from Customer. About support - Tomasz Laskowski sent you mail yesterday morning with information that we can ship to you acrylic glue but he told me now that he not get any reply from you.. Please reply to our support mail asap. I told also Tomasz to prepare photo manual for you how it should be done. Regards Przemek Last edited by Przemek_PacSun; 02/02/2017 at 02:27 AM. |

Is there a reason why my water level in mixing chamber ( not reactor chamber) constantly dropped down like 2-3" at the bottom of the chamber? Last night I started over flush all air and filled up with water to the top 3 times and it did again go down. My co2 input is at 4 bubbles/second. Both of input/output tubes are submersed. Any help would be appreciate I trying to get this thing to work right

Hi
Which model of reactor it is? Be sure that chambers are properly tightened and there is no sucked air from outside. Open reaction chamber and check upper pipe - there is small hole on the top, be sure thats not closed by any dirt/particles. Additionally, you can try to set bubble output to 2 bubbles/second. Very important is tubing length between bottle and solenoid valve - it should shortest as possible, because long tubing work like buffer(it can extend a little due high pressure) - and after solenoid will open - a lot of gabs will be pumped into reaction chamber(too much than it's needed) - which will affect gas level in mixing chamber. Please send also mail directly to service@pacific-sun.eu - they will be happy assist in that case. Regards Przemek |
