i think it commes standard with a 5000. stick with what comes standard. Just my two cents.

I disagree w/ drock... get the 9000. The tubing and volume on the CS8-2 is more than enough to handle the output of the sedra 9000.

thank you both. i currently have the 9000 but i think it's too much for 8-2. i'm going to replace it with the 5000 and keep it "stock".

I ran the 5-2 for a couple of years with the 3500. It ran just fine.
IMPHO there is no need to waste your money to upgrade the 5-2 pump. I now have a 6-2+ with the 5000. I think the 5000 would be way to much power for the 5-2. If the money is burning a hole in your pocket, you can always send it to me - I do take PayPal. ![]() David

cozmo, you pay a ton of money for a product that has been tested and tweaked for best performance. It makes sense to me to keep it stock.

I've seen both performance wise and the 9000 blows away the 5000 in terms of bubble production. Many people have 9000s on their CS 8 series skimmers. The 5000 is cheaper to run, but in no way does it perform better than a 9000. For another alternative. Try out the OR 3700 which actually draws more air and runs at only around 65W. I've seen and tested all of these pumps.

to those that use the gatevalve mod and berlin filter socks: when you replace the dirty sock with a clean one, does your skimmer go nuts for a few days? do you have to open the gatevalve all the way to keep the skimmer from overflowing? thanks |

i rinse them out with ro/di water first. the skimmer goes nuts for a few days and by the time it finally settles down, it's time to change the sock again. i throw the socks in the washer on a short cycle with no bleach or anything.

Recently added a Euroreef CS6-1 to my 75. This is the 3rd day of skimate while skimming a bit wet. I love my Euroreef.

I get my ES5-2 This Friday ~ Cant wait to see how much gunk this thing pulls. My Sealife systems 75 skimmer pulls some good gunk now on my 54 gallon .The only problem I see is now I will want to stock the tank with more fish!!!

I have a cs12-1 and it is better than I imagined. If I could do it again though I might work in two smaller modles. Redundancy is nice.
From my own experience and the many reviews on RC, I am sure you will be RTR either way. Rinse it with warm water and it should be running strong in 3 days and great in a week. |

Quick Question ~ the Ideal Aquarium size for a ER - should you stay in the Ideal Aquarium range or go larger If so how much larger ? I am getting a 5-2 rated for a 75 (I have a 54 ) should I have went to a 5-3 or is that overkill OR is to much skimming bad for the tank ?

I have a question about the RC models. Those who feed off a T from the overflow (which I presume is most), how do you know the rate of flow you need into the skimmer, and how do you determine whether you have reached that rate? Curious also what happens should the return pump shut down and flow stop.....

I'm gonna measure the flow by opening up the gate valve on my T and filling up a 2 gallon bucket before I install the skimmer. I'll do the math from there. I don't know if there is another way to do it or not. Jim

How do you know the rate you need to go through the skimmer?

I asked ER. They said 1.5 - 2X your total system volume. I have a 125 with a 50 gallon fuge. So I'm gonna run it run about 180 gph.
