Can you move the lights closer to the water line. 4-5 inches would be best.

I'm using a vega in a 29 gal biocube and I was having lots of issues with browning out and bleaching. My problem ended up being I was turning the LEDs up to high too soon. I was trying to get them as bright as my halides were. What I ended up doing was dropping the settings way back to 20% w, 15% r & g, 30% b, and 35% rb & db. I left them there for almost 2 months. All corals that were bleached turned back to brown and the browns ones started coloring up. I've started raising them back up 5% every 14 days and hope to get them back up to about 50%. All of my SPS has gotten its colors back and doing really well, they are not quite where I want them yet, but much better than brown.

Is is still possible to order custom pucks for the Vega or did AI dump this idea? Can't seem to find the page to order a few pucks.

How difficult is it to change pucks? Which pucks did you replace? I have 3 lights over a 120 and am thinking of changing out one puck in each light just not sure which ones to place.

Very easy to swap out the pucks. First, you need to make sure you update to the latest firmware. Then it is just a couple screws to open the lights, unplug the old puck and install the new. When you power up the light the controller will recognize the newly added colors. Took me about ten minutes to do from start to finish.

Have you seen any evidence of an upgrade kit?

I replaced the two inner pucks. Here is how I configured mine.

Number 1. 1x ColorConfig'd Power Puck - {"1":"Green","2":"Cool White","3":"Deep Red","4":"Violet","5":"UV"}
Number 2. 1x ColorConfig'd Power Puck - {"1":"Deep Red","2":"Cool White","3":"Green","4":"Violet","5":"UV"}

I believe that i saw this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiqjwhRA_Eo
starting from 0:23 , they started talking about Hydra 52 and director. I can see a color spectrum and the heat sink.
I sent an email to AI, they said all their product as Vega, Hydra,Sol can upgrade to Hydra 52 will be end of 2013 or early 2014. But the price hasn't determine yet :|

I want to see settings of Vega color users who have predominately SPS corals.

Can anyone share with us? I have having a tough time here. I have a 80g shallow reef tank (8" water depth). Any suggestions on height above water surface and settings?

I was about to post that I have the same tank, then noticed your water is only 8" deep? Mine is 16", so this may not help. My lights are about 10-12" AWL and I run the blues at 70% and the R, G & W at 50% with all at peak for about 3 hours. Entire photoperiod from first ramp up to last ramp down is 12 hours.

It is a mixed reef, but my sps are doing very well now that I have it dialed in. I also had some trouble finding the right combination.

Are you running custom timers or are you just running a long ramp up time?

I believe i have the same tank as you are running (48x24x16 LWH). Mine hang around 10-12" AWL as well and that is what AI suggested based on my tank dimensions.

I set up my timers manually.

Anyone having success keeping a maxima clam? I'd like to add one to my tank, but would like to hear some success stories under Veags before I drop that kind of cash.

I've got maxima, crocea and derasa under my Vegas. Maxima has been in so long half the shell is completely encrusted by montipora. Vegas have been on the rank for a year.
