Hermits not that I have ever heard. Ya got asterina stars? Tiny little off-white stars that multiply by splitting?

Yes, i have asternia stars. They have never been a bother. Plus theres distinct claw marks on the rock where the algae was. Im thinking since my microalgae is subsiding and i cut down my feeding, maybe the starfish and or hermits are munching on my coraline? I havent seen any other crabs in my tank, so i feel like the hermits have to be the culprits.

After sushi answered I looked it up and she is right, some do eat it. I guess particularly the red leg and electric blue legs. So it is probably both because that is what the asterinas will eat as well.

I just have regular hermits, blue leg I guess. I also get claw marks from time to time. Asterinas leave white/empty spots with no marks.

Thanks for the info guys, i do have the electric blue hermits and one large red guy. The large red hermit is great and was cleaning all my microalgae. I think since food is less abundant now theyre moving on to whats available. Should i throw them in my sump for awhile? Or is this not a serious issue?

Make sure they get food so they don't start on corals. I make sure food hits the bottom for mine when I feed.

Alright will do sushigirl. I thought i was overfeeding before but ill just keep it up. Also whats the best way to get rid of vermatid sbails and hydroids? They seem to be hard to pull out with my forceps.

You can use super glue gel to seal the end of the vermetid's tube. Hydroids are much tougher to get rid of. If you can remove the rock they are one, you can use a lighter or blow torch and torch the area they are on. (do it outside and steer clear of the fumes)

Lol i like the idea of using a blowtorch, hehehe.

Is there any specified amount of curing time for the superglue? How long should i wait before returning the rock to my tank?

You can put the rock right back in. The glue gel will harden underwater.

I put a piece of shrimp for my hermits to pick at and A LOT of bristle worms came out the rock and started eating it. I thought it was awesome, I know most people don't want them in their DT but I don't mind, I like them. =]

I have a few hundred bristle worms. The longest I have is over 8" too. They are good in all the small cracks of the rock and clean it out just like a pipe cleaner.

I thought this was a dead coral skeleton but tonight (a little over two weeks after cycle completed) I noticed it's alive! It has neon green arms coming out of the outer ring and what looks like a mouth in the middle.

Any idea what it is. The skeleton is hard.

No way to tell without a closer shot. Could be any number of LPS.

I agree, but just in case it's a non-photosynthetic lps you might want to try to feed it (a small piece of mysis every few days or so), you'll see if it takes it.

Hey guys. I was just wondering if anybody could help ID what I have here. There's a couple spots where they are around my tank. They appear to be black/white striped that stick out from the rocks. Sorry, I know the picture isn't the greatest.

Looks like a brittle star leg to me. And I think there's an aiptasia just up and to the right of it.

I also have some tiny Sun Coral polyps that suddenly showed up on this bit of skeleton which was purchased with live rock rubble...
