Sorry been a bit under the weather here. However I did take a couple pics and a short video before my batteries died.

I do mean impressed. Sorry my keyboard doesnt always pick up how fast {I} type sometimes. So it misses letters sometimes. But the skimmer is working very well. What would be great is to have a cylinder skimmer with the same bubble ring to see if the cone is really more efficient than the cylinder. I really like this skimmer. I would really like to see what the K1 is going to look like. As it would be a perfect fit for my tank size I believe. I'll have to see if I can get Jon to send me one of those next. Mojo, please continue with the review...its very much appreciated.

People sweat the little things to much sometimes.
If people don't like how mojo is doing this review maybe they can buy this skimmer there self's and make there own thread. I hate to peep in on this thread just to read the negative/nonproductive comments. Just a wast of time. Mojo, keep up the good work I like seeing new performance pics of this and other new skimmers and remember this is YOUR thread DO IT HOW YOU WANT.

is it just me or do those bubbles in the neck still look too big? I think the SWC bubbles produced from their askoll model seemed a little finer. This could be due to water quality or the skimmer itself.

I think it's because in the SWC you have to set the water level higher. This skimmer has big bubbles already at the bottom of the neck. That's how you want it. I'm impressed so far, this skimmer is clearly pulling a lot of air and low turbulence. Eager to see the larger model and what the Laguna does on it.

This skimmer looks great. I think it's a bit small for the tank I will be building soon. I do need a new skimmer for it though and the WM skimmers are high on my list. I look forward to seeing the bigger ones WM has in the pipeline.

I really think the skimmer is doing well. I think it pulls a good amount of air for a pinwheel. I like taking the video's for you all to see how it is actually performing. I will not empty the cup for a couple days so you all can get an idea of what its pulling. Thank you all for the positive comments. More pics in another day or two.

It could be a water quality issue as Cody mentioned. Not bagging on you Mojo. Just curious if you raise the water level a bit perhaps this will help? |

I actually have it on a stand right now. But the bubbles dont have to remain small the whole time through the neck. I If you cut back the air you can actually get smaller bubbles in the neck. It hard to see from the pics but the water level where the bubbles start is about 2 inches below the neck. Everyone has there own opinion on how a skimmer should perform. I think this skimmer is performing very well. time will tell.

Oh no I agree it looks to be doing well. It's just the purpose of the cone is to keep the bubble collisions and larger bubble formation from occuring.
I'm not here with an axe to grind, thats my honest opinion. As for operation opinions we all know that a more stable foam head is better. Small bubbles seem to accomplish this much better than large. Perhaps thats a tad too much air for that neck? Have you tried restricting it for like a day perhaps to see what it does? Much better Avatar btw |

This skimmer shows a foam column beginning to form before the neck begins, and pushing thick skimmate into the cup.

I'm with Kris. I think the bubbles are too big. Its not really a criticism, just an observation in comparison to some other skimmers that are producing great foam with small bubbles in the neck.

You'd have to show me a set of pictures to convince me, if what you are saying is you can have tiny bubbles and then, BOOM, thick foam, with no large bubbles in between. I've not seen that before on any skimmer, not ETSS, not Bubble King, not ATB. At least, not the photos I've observed. But we may quibble on what "large bubbles" and "foam" mean ... that's also an ongoing skimmer discussion. All I'm saying is, those bubbles in the neck on this to me look like the beginning of a foam head at the base of the neck. That's all.

The bubble production is different from some past skimmers. like the msx for example. The The bubbles stayed small throughout the rise in the chamber. However the actual distance from the water level to the top of the foam head is about half the distance compared to the K2. It has a longer transition period. I usually skim pretty dry. but I could bump it up to please the ones who worry about the bubble size. But I am not.THe bubbles were tighter before I swapped tanks out. I guess I dont consider this an issue as the head is really stable. lets just see how it does. If this was the same as every other skimmer I would of just bought one of those. Time will tell. THe flow up the skimmer is very gradual and it does have a nice gradual transition. Thanks for all the replies. If anyone wants any info feel free to ask. Thanks again Mojo~

I think the neck is still too violent too. Lower the water level in the skimmer. That usually helps. No way thats TOO much air for the neck, IMO.

If you all could see this in person I think you would all agree it is not violent at all. I am going to run the skimmer where I want to run it but thanks for your input. Oh and just to mention mine has a slightly smaller neck than production models. its 4.38 inches and the production model is 4.5. The acrylic will be thicker on the production models as well. Sorry all, I have a bad case of the flu and my patience are a little thin. I will update pics and video in a couple days. I dont want to change the water as I want to show the progress over the next couple days. Thanks again. Mojo~

I'm not really getting the impression that observations are welcome in your review? I'm not "worried" about the bubble size its just that the cone itself was made, at least in part, to decrease turbulence and larger bubbles are a sign of that. Turbulence in the neck are bad for skimming. I think we can all agree on that.
I've personally owned and run, over a a period of time, Deltecs, BK's and ATB's and they all share that characteristic, which I referred to above. I think that Warners VBT technology and the research behind it is promising, I like science in my fish tank personally. . All USA construction is a plus for sure as is the price. Operation looks akin to the other sicce based units with a superior needle wheel design. I'll not bother your "review" anymore and sincerely wish you the best of luck with your tank and skimmer. |
