bhazard451, do you have pics of inside the case? Is there any room to drill a hole and add 4 leds. Not on the circuit board but along the edges out side the splash cover. In other words is there a space inside the housing between the side of the housing and the circuit board when looking down on the fixture? Maybe run power from one of these... http://www.rapidled.com/moonlight-driver-350ma/

I added one to my DIY leds and love it. I used 2 uv and 2 regular blue. It brought out much more color.

There are lots of pics of the inside of the Nova units way back in the thread.

No room to add more leds (circular cutouts). Soldering them in would be easier.

If the 2nd sample of drivers I'm getting doesn't dim the way I want, I'm very interested in converting this into a Cree XT-E DIY unit.

I'm also going to compare multiple chinese units and sell off the ones I don't want. I was interested in the Reefbreeders color selection with red, green, blues, violets,uv, so that's the next one I'm trying. I'll run it while making the Cree unit.

dobbs, i contacted ada regarding this unit to customize. she was very helpful and quick to respond. i was able to get them to commit to making an external switch for the moonlight. switch 1 and dimmer 1 would power b1, b2, 4 violets. switch 2 and dimmer 2 would power red and green LEDs. switch 2 and dimmer 3 would power whites, remaining blues, and 2 violets.

i wanted the reds and greens to be on a separate dimmer to control in case any unwanted algae started to grow. just not enough info on red and green LEDs.

but i decided to wait because the pricing was not right for me to take the risk. no one has posted any pictures of their tank with this light and there is just not enough info about the long term effects over a reef tank. also based on the pricing i received, i felt it would be better to wait and buy the ai vega or ecotech radion at the end of the year depending on what happens between now and the end of the year. that's when i have to decide to buy new MH bulbs or switch over to LEDs.

Nope. The key to getting 0-10v or PWM dimming working from a controller, are the drivers inside the led fixture. They must also be PWM or 0-10v dimming drivers, and must push a high voltage of 90v each (24leds x 3.7fv=88.8v) the way they are built. None of the chinese fixtures have this yet.

The drivers I used only get down to 20-30% light, which is still incredibly bright.

The link he posted goes here. http://shop.stevesleds.com/Aquarium-...rs-harness.htm

This is off and on topic.

What do you all think of these lights?
Purely to go over a fuge to grow algae.

Glee, what was the pricing you received for the light? I like the layout of the LEDs and the extra switch for the moonlights would be great.

I have a friend with a D120 with a 2 to 1 blue to white ratio and its way to white. He runs his blue at 100% and his white at 50% to get the color he wants.

I built a cree LED system for my 125, unfortunately I used way to few LEDs, not enough whites and long story short is I wallow in regret for doing a fail job.

I used to have 2 units from Cidly 55x3 over my 55 gallon and they worked rather well, so I am going to scrap my DIY project and buy chinese fixtures again. I initially was interested in the 5 band fixtures with red and green and uv, but with so many color variables and lack of knowledge on them I have steered away. Price was great if I purchased 6 (123.00 per unit)

I see your DIY link here containing both the UV and violet and just am wondering if these will do the trick on a 125 long mixed reef. I read the first 30 pages of the thread and my head hurts.

OTherwise what are some other fixtures people would recommend. I do like the dimmable feature as my previous chinese lights were really bright and the blue was REALLY blue. Almost to blue when it came to nightlights.

I guess that would also be a perk if a fixture had nightlights.

Thanks for any input you guys may have!

Dobbs, I did notice that as well. That is the one point that does not sit well with me, but if what Glee states he heard is accurate at a good price point my decision may be made . Glee, great idea on the green and red LEDs with it being on a separate switch!

What does everyone think of the green and red spectrum LEDs? Good/bad for algae growth, aesthetically pleasing to the eye, or spurn coral growth? Does anyone have insight or personal experience on this matter?

More for aesthetics and bringing out some extra color pop. Using more than a few completely overpowers other colors, and is not beneficial.

I'm comparing this myself to see if it is worth it or not. Using a mixture of whites like cool, neutral, and warm would be more beneficial. I believe RB:B:CW:NW:WW:V (420nm) to be the best so far.

jjim, i guess it couldn't hurt to post their prices...the shipping and "mode" fee killed the deal.

"For my suggestion and your design they share the same price:

Unit price: USD155
Freight to CA USA : USD59
Together: USD 214

Two pcs price: USD 310
Freight to CA USA : USD 81
Together: USD 391

By the way, for your design new mode under 10pcs, our factory will charge a mode fee USD48 to open these mode. And when you next order than or including 15pcs, we will return the mode fee to you. Wish you can understand.

So one pcs will be USD 262, Two pcs will be USD 439."

At that price your close to what a Nova A6 would cost. Hmm, looks like more deliberation for me. Thanks for the info Glee!

Just took apart my A6 last night and desolder 2Rb and added 2 420nm violets, gave my greens an extra pop. Gotta give it to Sam, very good customer services sent me the violets as promised A+ service.

Hey Guys, I Was looking at Buying leds for my 18x18x10 reef, could anyone help me out? I have looked at the d120, the nova 4 and the This But i have no idea which would suit my tank the best.... I like the d120 because its Cheap, and dimmable, and i also like the Linked one because it has the clustered leds and has a heat sink, Is there any way i could add a dimmer to that? Also Is there a better fixture for my tank that i have overlooked? THANK you all VERY much!

Anyone have any insight on these lights?

I picked up the same model light you are referencing yesterday and set it ontop of by BC29. I only had them change the whites to all nuetral and that was the only customization I had done and it was $227 shipped with a leg kit.

Ill give you my novice first impression:

-The leg kit is not going to win any prizes for aesthetics, but it works and is adjustable (and only $10 extra).

-I do agree that the power switches could be a little better thought out as mentioned in other posts but I have not automated anything in my tank yet and I dont think its a deal breaker.

-The moonlights are stronger than I expected. Im not sure they give a realistic "moon-lit" look. Maybe a dimmer for these too?

-The dimmers do 'click' off when turned all the way counter clockwise. So if you didnt like the red, green or violet you can turn it off completely.

-I did get some disco ball effect on the sandbed with the red and green lights on.

-I really liked the shimmer!!

-The adjustablilty between dark windex blue and yellowy-white are there to suit your liking.

I wish I had more colors in my tank to reference but I'm letting everything settle a bit more before I start adding corals.

I look back on this review and it almost sounds like I am giving it a negative review. I want to be clear that after day one I am very happy with the purchase I guess I pointed out some things that I wasnt expecting.

I am very excited about this and after day one would do it again!

Looks like a good fixture with a controller. Ratio 2rb:1w or 3rb:1w with a few violets added in. Looks like the best, cheapest option with controller for a 48".

The thing with built in controller fixtures from China... if the controller goes, the whole light will stop working, and you might need to ship the light back for warranty... which would cost a fortune.

The linked one is the same thing as the Nova, but not dimmable. The nova is dimmable.

Unless you plan on modding the box in the future, the d120 would be a better value. If you want optics, the nova is the better value.

Thank you for your feedback bhazard451...I have also concern abt the shipping cost if it goes out during the warranty period. He gave me quote of $113. So the shipping cost back and forth is also equivalent to the unit itself already. But still very tempting to pull the trigger on this so affordable led light.

Last time you mention abt the Maxrespect Razor. That is a really awesome fixture, but the price for a 48" long maybe an issue.

So, I am in between the D120 and this light now.
