^^^ I have that same brand of fixture over top of my 20 long. If I were you I would pull the glass and mount the fixtures higher. For me it gave a better spread and it is noticeably brighter.

Ill give you my novice first impression:

-The leg kit is not going to win any prizes for aesthetics, but it works and is adjustable (and only $10 extra).

-I do agree that the power switches could be a little better thought out as mentioned in other posts but I have not automated anything in my tank yet and I dont think its a deal breaker.

-The moonlights are stronger than I expected. Im not sure they give a realistic "moon-lit" look. Maybe a dimmer for these too?

-The dimmers do 'click' off when turned all the way counter clockwise. So if you didnt like the red, green or violet you can turn it off completely.

-I did get some disco ball effect on the sandbed with the red and green lights on.

-I really liked the shimmer!!

-The adjustablilty between dark windex blue and yellowy-white are there to suit your liking.

I wish I had more colors in my tank to reference but I'm letting everything settle a bit more before I start adding corals.

I look back on this review and it almost sounds like I am giving it a negative review. I want to be clear that after day one I am very happy with the purchase I guess I pointed out some things that I wasnt expecting.

I am very excited about this and after day one would do it again!
an

Thank you for the review Cappy! I am guessing you have the three switches so that you can manage the green and red on one, with the moon on another, and the rest on a third? Do you have the link you ordered from so that I may look it over? Thanks again!

jjim, i believe cappy bought the fixture with the standard configuration of 2 power switches with 3 dimmers. first power switch controls all 3 dimmers. second power switch controls the moonlight. the only change from the original set up is that he chose neutral whites instead of the other white LEDs.

i would like to see some pictures of the fixture and the reef tank with lights on. i would also like to know the number of inches above water line, tank dimensions and the coverage footprint.

Are you sure about those lumens? Are you perhaps missing a digit? A 23 watt typical fluorescent bulb emits 1500+ lumens and a 250w halide emits something like 23,000 lumens.

These all look great so far. Keep the reviews and pics coming. The Eshines look nice and bright, and Legg's tank looks nearly perfect... not too white, not too blue.

Although it doesn't do much for coral, I'm liking the extra pop in color from the red/green/cyan/blue/violets for asthetics. My Fire Shrimp, zoos, and Maroon Clownfish really pop in color now. They almost look radioactive.

I'm going to sell/ebay my led boards and upgraded drivers for the Nova, and use the rest of the internals for a DIY Cree XT-E / Luxeon fixture.

This thread has been very helpful for me and a lot of other people, as I started out just looking for a led fixture that wasn't outrageous in cost. Now, after getting an Apex and learning a lot from here and seeing different fixtures, I'm confident in tailoring my own top of the line DIY Apex compatible fixture.

That was what she wrote me . But I do see in the other description 5500 ( Lms all ) which my guess is 2420 lm on each driver .

Radbluesfan,

Super nice tank and I really like your color...that yellow color from your really pop out. My Foxface color is nowhere nearly yours on my 48" Aquaticlife 4-lamp
T5. Do you mind to share your ratio on those two Eshine fixtures?

2 novas a4 or 1 a8

I have a 75 gallon mixed reef. I just ordered 2 a4s but now I'm thinking maybe 1 a8 would be enough. Should I get a4s or one a8? Tank is 48" long. The a8 is aprox. 100 dollars less. A8 is 24" long so a foot on each side would be open. I want to hang them in canopy around 10" off water. Thanks for any help.

Thank you very much.
12 neutral white
16 royal blue
8 cool blue, regular blue
6 actinic violet 420 nm
6 bridgelux 510 nm
They are Bridgelux 48X3s with the controller. As I have posted earlier, if I did it over I would probably drop 2 or 3 of the violets and greens (510nm) and replace them with blues. I was really surprised how so few whites really light up the tank. To achieve my favorite look I run blue 100% and white about 60%. Theoretically I wish my favorite look would be when both blue and white were 100%. They are great though and very quiet. Running blue only at 10% is a nice moonlight, although even 10% is a tad bright for moonlight.

Legg man, I just watched this video. WOW!! Your tank is beautiful. How old is it? I can't wait to have some mature corals. It might be awhile because all I can afford is frags!

I am also interesting in this new light fixture directly from the factory in China. I may pull a trigger on this unit soon. But still not too sure about the ratio. Any suggestions would be appreciate a lot. It is a 48" long with 80 x 3w Bridgelux leds.

Thx.

Lights are 7 inches off of the water. I have a shallow hood so that is how they fit. I am still waiting to see the long term health of the corals with the LED's but I enjoy the look of what I bought.

Sand is sugar size and all corals were from small frags. Set it up a little over 2 years ago.

Thanks for the nice words!

Don't want to go off thread so nuff said

There are only two power switches and three dimmers as Glee stated.

Here is the original link when I ordered and got all the info:

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/54...ight_with.html

Here is a new link the rep sent me for future reference:
http://www.aliexpress.com/product-gs...olesalers.html

The only customization I had done was to the whites (all neutral white)

You are correct about the configuration, and also correct on some possible improvements.

I can snap some shots at some point, but the unit itself is exactly like the photos on alibaba. As far as taking a picture of it on my tank I can do that as well but I dont have any corals yet so it may be kind of boring.

I did end up gutting my BC29 hood that was cracking anyway), cutting a rectangular hole in it and set the light on top of the hood. The leg kit functioned perfect but the reflection off the surface of the water was pretty bright and I think it is more aesthetically pleasing the way I have it now.

Be patient with the pics as I havent ever posted a pic in a forum before and dont have membership to a hosting website yet!

Jason

I watched a your video...all I can say is WOW. The color is so vibrant. I have seen lot of pictures a few video from these LED fixtures. They do look so damn good. The color of these led so beautiful and so full of beautiful colors comparing to my current Aquaticlife T5. Eventhough, I have upgraded all light bulbs to ATI bulbs. But the color is nowhere close to these led fixtures, imo. Keep the pictures and your comments on these fixtures coming guys.

Here a few of pix from my T5. Nowhere close to your LED
