Carbon Use and Yellow Tang

Yesterday I put a new bag of carbon in the sump (1st of the month routine - but only 2nd time using on this tank). I rinsed it out very thoroughly like a always have. 12 hours later my YT went absolutely nuts. Darting around, hitting the glass, chasing the other fish, labored breathing....he lost his mind. Went to the inter webs and started searching (I thought maybe the time change messed him up lol). Started to find anecdotes of strange reactions with carbon and tangs. I immediately pulled the carbon and threw it out. Wasn’t sure he’d make it through the night.

This morning 12 hours after pulling the carbon he’s totally back to normal.

Anyone else experience this? Do people not use carbon for this reason? I don’t think I’ll ever put carbon in again after this.
