How long will the type of octopus on live aqaria live?

This is a long response to your question but I wasn't sure what you were asking:
That kind of depends on what you're talking about and what species it is. I'm guessing you're not referring to one from Diver's Den so you'll be getting an Abdopus sp. They ususally end up being aculeatus I believe. From what I've seen it's 50/50 if the octopus will be with you more than two weeks and after that you probably have less than six months with the animal. Granted, some people get lucky and get young ones so they have more time with them. I believe the natural lifespan for those guys is about a year. You don't plan to put an octopus in one of your existing systems do you? |

Yep, a few months, if you are lucky, and have a very good set up for them. Be prepared to have a system that can handle a ton of ammonia.

I would love to keep a Octo, just can't bring myself to do it considering that even if I'm perfect I most likely won't get a year out of them.

It can be very addicting to keep octopuses. Every time I say I am going to take a break its never more than a few months and I miss them. The ones from Live Aquaria used to not make it passed the 2 month mark, now they vary. I have kept one for 6 months from them.
