Freshwater Conversion HOB filter?

Ok so Im turning my 29 FW into a SW tank. So far I put my substrate which is crushed coral in and salt as well. I have a fluval heater and a tetra 50 gallon pump filter the pad type. My question is if I can just leave that filter in the tank add a powerhead or two and a high quality skimmer. Would this be enough for a tank that I plan on using for live rock and a couple fish. Here is a couple pics

In general we tend to avoid crushed coral and HOB filters like the plague..They tend to become nitrate factories if not properly maintained/cleaned regularly..

But if just live rock and fish then its probably fine as they can tolerate higher nitrate levels unlike corals. Just make sure you keep it clean.
