Will a 250w ballast work for a 175w Bulb?
I am going to buy Ice Cap electronic ballasts for my MH set up, and I was wondering if I could buy the 250w ballast for a 175w bulb??? I would rather just buy the 250w ballast instead of the 175w ballast because it is only $10 more and it would give me more flexability if I ever wanted to upgrade. If it is possible to use a 250w ballast is there any draw backs such as the system running hotter or the bulb life not lasting as long?

No.... Well it shouldn't. I seriously do not recommend it.

I've (accidently) run a 250 W bulb on a 400 W ballast. It worked, but I shut it down after 15 minutes. I would suspect your bulb's lifetime will be seriously reduced.
