Diatoms

I have a brown substance spreading in areas across my sand...I am assuming they are diatoms...Nitrate & phos are both 0...I have read that this is normal for a tank only being 1 month old...is this true & if so how long can I expect this issue to persist???

Normal part of the cycle. If you stay on top of your water quality, they usually clear up in a month or so, but will often reappear in a new tank.

I love the deep browns etc. Enjoy your new tank, and keep up with the water changes and parameters! Sounds like your take is off to a great start!
