This is for all the swc cone owners to come talk about our swc cone skimmer. Its sad that the other thread got closed but lets keep our club going. There was a lot of good pictures and info in that other thread. I hope this one doesn't get closed

just got mine so not much info to give but I'll check in to give my 2 cents as the thread develops (hopefully that will happen this time). in the mean time here's a pic for proof, 160 model.

Lets just discuss the skimmer and leave out the where, who and how much.

I started with it in 9" of water and settled on the recommended 8" where its going to stay. Its only been 3day running so right now I'm getting the break in skimate. Its on a 1.5yr sps/lps mix 30g with 10g sump so I'm not expecting cups of black soot but I'll post pics when its done breaking in completely.

IBTL, no idea why it would be locked but the last few didn't survive long.

Mods the locks without any type or reason are getting old. If your going to do it at least tell us why.

yes its unfortunate that they do that but lets keep this thread clean so it won't get closed. I'm sure once the search function is implemented again. This thread should get going some more. But lets just post about our skimmer and our experience with it. Good or bad.

i have mines in about 8" of water right now. It skims fairly well at this level for me but has its hiccups where it stops foaming for a little bit. Does anyone else have this problem where it would skim good then all of a sudden stop and lose its foam head?

Almost all skimmers will lose the head after any oils get into the water, whether thats from oils off your skin or from a oily food like rods. Totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Mine is in 9.5 inches of water. My sump is 12 inches of water. Here is the video of it after 10 minutes in the sump. You'll notice some water hiccups which is the skimmer breaking in. A few hours later the foam head was much higher. I'll have to film another video.

lol thats one hiccup. I didn't notice my skimmer doing that when i first turned it on. how is your skimmer performing in 9,5 inches of water?

I have a 120 on my 40 breeder with 20 long sump. Here you can kind of gauge its size in relation to the tank.

And this is about 3 days of skimmate.

Im really happy with the performance and ease of this skimmer. Really easy for me to disassemble when I need to do a complete cleaning.

Just got my SWC 160 up and running. I'm running on a 75 gallon tank with 30 gallon sump. I was curious what the hose that was in the collection cup was for?

I'm running in 9 inches of water. I had the water level in the skimmer where the white plastic brace is near the neck. I started getting a lot of foam and have the wedge pipe all of the way open and still have foam up into tube in collection tube. Just started running it last night. Hopefully it will become a little more stable for adjustment later. This is my first skimmer so I'm learning as I go.

Last night I noticed the foam head was almost at the top of the cup with no more hiccups going on. One more day and if the head is not at the top, I'll adjust the water level. If hiccups continue, I'll just move it higher in the sump.

Is it worth going with a 160 ? I would definitely not be happy if I could not get good production due to it being way oversized.
