Best place for carbon bag with wet/dry?
I've been using "sheet" carbon for years, the kind you just cut out and stick in the top of your wet dry. I'm wanting to use the kind you put in a media bag now, and I'm not sure where to put it. Could I just let it lay against the return pump? Or is there a better place?
Thanks! |

I've seen bags be placed in the flow of the return to the sump. However, I don't agree with just letting water trickle over the media. IMO in order for the carbon to be effective, it would need to have the water flowing in a more concentrated flow through the media. Placing it in the flows that I have seen, it seems to flow around it and not be effective.

Get a reactor.
One of the cheapest upgrades you can do.

I agree with the others. Passively running carbon is not very effective. Water will go around it more often than through it.

I use 2 Kent Marine phos-reactors chained together.
1 with carbon other with GFO.

I put the carbon with sponge filter in wet/dry box.
My tank is very clean. |
